Pirates clinch playoff berth with 34-7 win over Wildcats

BEAR CREEK — The Bears may have started out on the prowl, but it was the Tigers who had the final growl, as Meek soundly defeated Phillips 37-8 in a Friday the 13th regional victory.
The Marion County Lady Red Raiders and the Hamilton Aggies have each won their respective state track meets, hosted from Thursday, May 2, through May 4.
Hamilton traveled to Gulf Shores to compete in the 4A-7A meet, while all other Marion County teams traveled to Cullman for the 1A-3A meet.
The Aggies won the 4A state boys’ meet with 94 points, over Brooks in second place with 56 points and Anniston in third with 54 points.
The Lady Red Raiders won with 84 points over Marengo with 55 points and Winterboro with 54 points.

Several varsity basketball players from around the county were named to the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s All-State basketball team this year.
There were five athletes in total from Brilliant, Hamilton, Marion County and Winfield.
Brilliant’s Hadlee Sanderson was named 1A girls’ third-team.
Hamilton’s Aubrey Sorrells was named 4A girls second-team.
Two were from Marion County. Joe Aldridge was named 1A boys’ first-team all-state. Jolie Kate Cox was named 1A girls’ second-team.
