Rose Marie was born on August 5, 1941 to Christian Craig Yonge and Augusta Marie McGlamery Yonge in Americus, Georgia. She became the little sister to George Stephen Yonge who resides in Orlando, Florida. At 16, she became the elder sister to Christian Craig Yonge Jr. who died at the tender age of 13.

Jimmie Whisnant

Jimmie Lee Whisnant,77, of Hamilton, passed away on May 10, 2024, at home. He was born April 3, 1947 in Russellville to the late Talmadge “Pete” and Helen Whisnant. He had been a machinist at NTN Bower. Jimmie was also a Veteran that served with the Air Force.
Survivors include wife, Frances Whisnant; children, Chad (Vicki) Whisnant, Brad (April) Whisnant, and Brent (Hilary) Whisnant; granddaughters, Ana Kathrine, Caroline, Mallory, and Brynlee Whisnant; and sister, Jan (Neal) Vick.

Betty Vogt

Betty M. Vogt, 102, of Hamilton passed away May 14th at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born January 9,1922 in Auburn, Indiana to parents Howard and Mabel Steckley. In 1940, she and her parents moved to Cleveland, Ohio. There she met and married Birt Vogt in 1953. Tired of the snow and cold weather, the family moved to Arizona in 1959, living there until she moved to Hamilton in 2017.

Brian Parris

Brian Sean Parris, 55, of Cortland, Ohio passed away on Wednesday,  April 24, 2024, at Mercy Health-St. Joseph Warren Hospital.
He was born in San Jose, Calif. on September 25, 1968, to John Parris and Rita McKee Parris.
Brian graduated in 1987 from Hackleburg High School. He loved working with his hands, fishing, model cars, his saxophone, and most of all, he loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Porshia Beth Parris; mother, Rita Parris; and sister, Vicky McKee.

Albert McCullar

Albert McCullar, 69, of Vina, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024, at his residence.
He was born in Michigan on July 02, 1954, to Hubert McCullar and Virginia Green McCullar.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Virginia Green McCullar; and his brother, Larry McCullar.

Tim Hubbert

Mr. Timothy Rex Hubbert, 56, of Winfield, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at his residence. Tim was born in Winfield on July 29, 1967 to Dunny Rex and Gloria Dodd Hubbert. He was a 1985 graduate of Hubbertville High School. Tim spent much of his life employed as a carpenter before becoming disabled. In his spare time, Tim enjoyed reading and spending time with family and friends.

Tim Foster

Mr. Timothy Wayne Foster better known as Tim, 55, of the Glen Allen community passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at his residence. Tim was born in Fayette on Dec. 19, 1968, to Wayne Foster and Sharlene McGee Foster Stough. He was a graduate of Hubbertville High School. Tim served his country for 20 years in the United States Navy before retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. He was an avid Alabama fan and enjoyed going to home games for many years with his grandfather and aunt Sherry. In his spare time, Tim enjoyed reading, antiquing, and thrifting.

Doug Doss

Mr. Douglas Leland Doss, better known as Doug,  82, of the Bazemore community passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at his residence. Mr. Doss was born in Winfield on March 10, 1942, to Bob and Mary Jo May Doss. Doug attended Whites Chapel Church of Christ and was a 1961 graduate of Winfield City High School. He was employed with Reltoc Manufacturing for 10 years before moving to the Fayette County Commission where he worked as an equipment operator for 25 years until his retirement. In his spare time, Doug was an avid hunter.

Lance Ballard

Eron “Lance” Ballard, son of Awyer and Era Ballard, born Aug. 10, 1938, passed away April 29, 2024.
He is survived by his special love, Nella Mae Knight Carlton; special 11-year-old friend, Bryleigh Carlton; devoted caregivers, Perry Carlton , Jo and Merle Wightman, who were also extra special friends; also son, Tracy Ballard; his devoted stepfamily for many wonderful years, Kelly Shoemaker Eickleberry, Keven Shoemaker and Kathy Shoemaker Rygh; his dear grandchildren andgreat-grandchildren; and brother, Benny Ballard.

Elbert Thompson, Sr.

Elbert Leon Thompson Sr . 83, lovingly known as Papa, of Guin went to be with Jesus on April 25, 2024, surrounded by loved ones at UAB. Born and raised in Sulligent, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, and Christian. He spoke often of his faith, read his Bible every morning with his coffee, and showed love and kindness to those around him. He was a hardworking, strong man, Navy Veteran, fisherman, avid collector of antiques, and will be extremely missed by those who knew and loved him.

Syble Inez Humphries, 87, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Marion Regional Nursing Home in Hamilton. She was born in Vina, Ala. to James K. Vardman Clanton and Gerthie Lucertta Emerson Ackers Clanton. She worked for NTN Bower and was a member of Pearly Gates Church of God of Prophecy.

Becky Compton

Mrs. Rebecca Perry Compton, better known as Becky, 69, of Winfield passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024, in the Sunset Manor Nursing Facility.  Becky was born in Marion County, Ala. on Oct. 17, 1954 to Byron and Amogene Estes Perry. She was a member of Harmony Grove Baptist church and attended Winfield City High School.  She was employed for much of her life as a seamstress in the garment manufacturing industry. In her spare time, Becky enjoyed spending time with her family and loving and taking care of animals.

Jananne Stricklin

Jananne Fields Stricklin, or as most know her, “Nanny,” 77, passed away on April 21, 2024. Jananne was born on March 31, 1947 in Brilliant where she was a lifelong resident. She was a member of the Brilliant Free Will Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She spent many years serving her community as part of the city council. Jananne spent most of her career selling Insurance and part-time at Wal-Mart until her retirement. If you knew Jananne, she was working. Shortly after her retirement, she went back to work as the hostess/face of Mookie’s Smokehouse in Winfield.

Debra Banta

Debra Joan Banta, 70, of Red Bay, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, in the Generations of Red Bay. Debra was born May 7, 1953 in Jasper, AL to Cefos Lee Green and Mamie Louise Markem Green.

Dee Ann Cook

Mrs. Dee Ann Cook,  79, of Winfield, formerly of the Birmingham area, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, in the Marion Regional Nursing Facility. Mrs. Cook was born on Oct. 26, 1944 in Guin, Alabama to J.D. and Mary Lee McKay Franks. She was a member of Sparks Gap Baptist Church in Birmingham and a graduate of Marion County High School. Dee Ann was employed for many years with UAB Health Service Foundation until her retirement. In her spare time Dee Ann enjoyed living a very simple life.

Tiffany Horne

Tiffany Louise Matlock Horne, 30, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. Tiffany was born on July 5, 1993 in Memphis, Tennessee to Kenneth Sr. and Tammy Pittman Matlock. She attended Winfield City High School. Tiffany spent much of her life as a homemaker caring for her husband and children. In her spare time, Tiffany enjoyed a simple life.

Mary Nix

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Nix, 86, of Winfield entered into her Heavenly home on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at her daughter’s home surrounded by family and friends. Mrs. Nix was born on Dec. 2, 1937, In Fayette, Alabama to Edd and Icy Tidwell Tucker. Mary was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandma, and friend to many. She was well known as “Nanny” to her grandkids. She spent many years employed with Cotler Manufacturing at the Reltoc plant, after its closing she began working for Northwest Regional Health where she later retired after 23 years of service.

Gary Ward

Dr. Gary Wayne Ward was born May 6, 1953, to Uless Dewey “Hob” and Bertha Dobbs Ward in Fayette County, Alabama. The youngest of a family of four sisters and one brother, he always had playmates and being the youngest was always the student. This proved to be instrumental in his developing a love for education. His mother died when he was ten years old, and his sisters helped raise him. The family lived on a farm and raised cattle and truck crops.

Lola Mann

Lola Ann Isom Mann, 99, gained her angel wings from her Heavenly Father on April 9th, 2024. Regarding her legacy, she will be remembered as a woman of great faith. She could see the presence of the Lord in all people. Mrs. Mann was born on Feb. 9, 1925 to Fremon and Dollie Isom of Hackleburg, Alabama. She was the second child born of fourteen children: Elijah, Lola, Newton, Cullen, Rubie, Irma Jewel, Julian, Curtis, Nela Dean, Joe, Fay, Jimmy, Billy Fray, and Kenneth. Mrs. Mann loved and enjoyed growing up in a large family.

Lydia Montijo Hawkins, 81, of Pickerington, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Mount Carmel East Hospital.
She was born in San Jose, Calif. on Thursday, Aug. 27, 1942, to Gabriel Salazar Montijo and Margaret Gomez Montijo.  

Sandra Dunavant

Mrs. Sandra Faye Howell Dunavant, 76 of the Bazemore community, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at her residence. Mrs. Dunavant was born in Winfield on Nov. 14, 1947 to Boyd Ray and Ara Wyers Howell.  Mrs. Dunavant was a member of the Whites Chapel Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School and assisted with VBS for over 20 years. Sandra attended Hubbertville High School, she later earned her GED and an LPN degree. She was employed with Winfield Hospital for many years and later with Dr. Dale Spruiell at Winfield Internal Medicine until her retirement.

Paul Carter

James Paul Carter was born on May 16, 1941 to Charlie Carter and Evelyn Rye Carter in Detroit, Ala. He was the oldest of four children, including a sister, Polly, and two brothers, John Thomas (JT) and Dennis Wayne. From a young age, Paul was a hard worker. After high school, Paul would travel between Alabama and Michigan with his uncles and would do various jobs along the way. While working on a farm, he met the woman who would become his wife, Linda Cantrell.

Dominique Bennett

Dominique Renikka (Nique) Bennett, 36, of Tuscaloosa passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at her residence. She was born in San Francisca, Calif. on June 22, 1987, to Gregory Bennett and Vicky Wallace.  

Larry Box

Larry Fred Box was born on Oct. 4, 1948, in Jasper to Willie Fred and Mildred Norris Box. He was the oldest of 4 children, being preceded in death by his sister, Pam, and survived by his brothers, Scott (Linda) and Lyndon (Lesleigh). Larry was raised in Rock City, graduating from Winfield City High School in 1966 and attending Walker College after high school. In October 1971, Larry began working on the railroad, and he would continue in that job for over 37 years, retiring in 2008.

Corinne Bobo

Corinne Bobo, 90, of Hamilton passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024, at her residence.
She was born in Hamilton on Sunday, May 28, 1933, to Russ Casey and Lela Hall Casey.
Preceding in death are her mother and father, Lela Hall Casey and Russ Casey; her siblings, Willard Ray, Woodrow Rex, and Pauline Casey (Webb); and her son, Theo Bobo, Jr.

Shirley Ballew

Shirley Sue Hill Ballew of Detroit, Ala. went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 28, 2024, in her home after a sequence of illnesses.
Preceded in death by her husband, John Lee Ballew; parents, James Francis Hill and Ressie Creed Hill; brother James Albert Hill; sisters, Maudine Karr, Bessie Gray and stepdaughter, Terry Farquhar.

Joy Wates

Joy Amanda Wates, 41, of Hamilton, formerly of Guin, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024, in the Northwest Medical Center in Winfield.
Born Dec. 6, 1982 in Amory, Miss., she was the daughter of Linda Powless Wates and the late Lynn Wates. Mrs. Wates lived in Guin and Hamilton most of her life.
She is survived by her mother, Linda Wates; daughter, Josie Cox; sons, Anthony and Aaron Cox; sister, Gina Wates; and brother, Greg Wates.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lynn Wates.

William Franks

Mr. William Garrison Franks, 91, of Brilliant passed away on Sunday April 7, 2024, in the Northwest Medical Center. Garrison was born Jan. 21, 1933 to Dewey and Ila Hollis Franks. He was a member of the Freewater Freewill Baptist Church for many years. Garrison was employed with the Winfield Cotton Mill Fruit of the Loom for nearly 40 years before his retirement.

Dude Mayfield

Mr. Kenneth Richard “Dude” Mayfield, 81, of Winfield passed away peacefully on April 9, 2024 in the UAB Hospital. Dude was born on May 10, 1942 to John Thomas and Carra Townley Mayfield. He was a graduate of Brilliant High School and married the love of his life Estalene Tucker. He worked as a coal miner for many years until his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching Alabama football, tending to his chickens, and gardening. You could normally catch him sitting outside watching hummingbirds and the flowers blooming. One of his greatest achievements was being called Pop.

Gloria Stovall

Mrs. Gloria D. Stovall, 79, of Winfield passed away on Sunday, April 7. 2024, at her residence. Gloria was born Oct. 31, 1944 to Brody and Addine Miles Rose. She was a member of the Winfield Church of Christ and a 1963 graduate of Winfield City High School. Gloria was employed for many years as a dental assistant for Dr. George Mann and Dr. Max Thomas, as a kindergarten teacher’s aide with Winfield Elementary School, with the Marion County Board of Registrars from 1996 until 2000, and later with her family business, Stovall Contractors until her retirement.

Bobby Boyett

Bobby Hugh Boyett, 85, of Hamilton,, passed away April 1, 2024, at his residence. He was born Feb. 25, 1939  in Hamilton to the late Ivan Keiffer and Fannie Bell Hamilton Boyett. He was a retired Commissioner, he had worked at Sand and Gravel Pit for 30 Years and was also a farmer.

Amy Bobo

Amy Hollie Bobo, 48, of Guin passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024, in the DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.
Born August 15, 1975 in Jasper,  she was the daughter of James E. Hollie and the late Debra Morris Glasgow. She spent most of her years living in Guin and Hamilton.
She is survived by daughter, Cynthia Hayes; son, Matthew Bobo; parents, James and Jackie Hollie; granddaughter, Valerie Buetow; mother-in-law, Annette Bobo; sister, April Hollie; and brother, James David Hollie.

Bill “Wee-Willie” Betts

Mr. Robert William Betts, better known as Bill or “Wee-Willie”, 82, of Winfield passed away on Sunday, Mar. 24, 2024, in the Northwest Medical Center in Winfield. Mr. Betts was born in Trenton, N.J. on June 21, 1941 to Cortland and Adelaide Schwerd Betts. He lived in many places during his life, starting out in New Jersey to New York to Florida, then to California, Arizona, Virginia, and finally to Alabama where he lived out the remainder of his life.  Mr. Betts attended East Winfield Church of Christ and was a United States Marine Veteran.

Rocky Ridings

Rocky Edward Ridings, 69, of Hamilton passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Hamilton.
He was born in Russellville, Ala. on July 13, 1954, to Tranon (Jack) Ridings and Eugenia Glenn Ridings.  
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of almost 51 years, Sandra Cochran Ridings; children, Misty Ridings Baldwin (husband, Joseph) and Heather Ridings Haney; grandson, Spencer Ryan Haney; and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Eugenia Ridings, and sister, Kay Frederick.

Melissa Millwood

Miss Melissa Jane Millwood, 60, of Brilliant passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024, in Jasper. Melissa was born May 1, 1963 in Winfield to Curtis and Opal Pennington Millwood. Melissa attended Brilliant Church of Christ. She was a 1981 graduate of Carbon Hill High School and attended Brewer Community College from 1982 until 1984. Melissa was employed in the textile industry for 12 years, a caregiver for 20 years, and most recently as a kitchen aide for the Winfield Senior Center Program.

Janet Crow

Miss Janet Lynn Crow, 65, of Guin passed away on Sunday, Mar. 31, 2024, in the DCH Medical Center of Tuscaloosa. Janet was born Aug. 22, 1958, in Guin to Roy Floyd and Shirley Jones Crow. She was a faithful member of Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church. Janet loved the Lord, her church, and her church family. She was often asked to pray for individuals and saw many of those prayers answered. Janet was an avid fan of Elvis often playing his music and singing along with him.

Grace Haynes

Sara Grace Haynes, 95, of Guin passed away Wednesday, Mar. 27, 2024, in the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Guin.
Grace was born April 20, 1928 in Guin to Roy and Anne Flurry Webb. She had lived in Guin all of her life and was a member of the Guin First Baptist Church. She was a Nurse and retired after 31 years working for the  Guin Hospital.
