Annette Bobo

Annette Bobo, 80, of Guin passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024, in the DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.
Born February 14, 1944, in Lamar County, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Addie and Rosa Nell Vaughn Robertson and the wife of the late Franklin Lee Bobo.  She had lived in Guin most of her life and worked in several flower shops and Bobo's Horse Barn. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the First Baptist Church of Guin.

Jane Cochran

Jane Corser Champion Cochran, 80, of Hackleburg, passed away June 3, 2024, at Helen Keller Hospital.
No services are planned at this time. Survivors include brother, Charles Champion; daughter, Dena Rose (David); grandchildren, John Rose (Asia) and Amanda Riddle (Billy); and great-grandchildren, Ethan, Zeva, Rowan, Lily, Josie and Thomas.
She was preceded in death by husbands, John and Mitch; and son, James Cosby.

Clovis Ellis

Clovis Merlon Ellis, 76, of Haleyville, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 21, 1947, to Fred and Marylee Ellis.
Clovis is survived by his son, Robert Ellis; daughter, Andrea Ellis Tingle; grandchildren, Noah Earnest, John Robert Ellis, Roby Ellis and Dawson Tingle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Marylee Ellis; and his brother, Roland Ellis.
The family will be having a private burial and celebration of life at a later date.

Barbara Taylor

Barbara Nell Avery Taylor, 83, of Hamilton, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024, at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham.  She was born on Sunday, May 25, 1941, in Phil Campbell to Draymon “Red” Avery and Dorothy Evelyn Williams Avery. Barbara was a 1959 graduate of Hamilton High School.

Bobby Stiles

Mr. Bobby Wayne Stiles, 77, of Winfield, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024, in the Princeton Baptist Medical Center.  Bobby was born on February 23, 1947, to Huston and Ileen Sandlin Stiles.  He attended the Brilliant Methodist Church and was a graduate of Brilliant High School.  He established a career with Century Tel for many years and held a District Manager position until his retirement.
Bobby enjoyed working with his cows, maintaining his farm and spending time with his family.  His favorite pastime was playing golf with his friends and watching Alabama football.

Kathy Pounders

Kathy Yvonne Pounders, 73, of Hamilton, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at NMMC-Tupelo.
She was born in Alabama on August 09, 1950, to Hubert Cochran and Nola McCarley Cochran.
Kathy is survived by two sons, Barry Pounders (Dorothy) and Kevin Pounders; her grandchild, Brayden Pounders; brother, Anthony Cochran; sisters, Barbara Cochran, Linda Ballard, Hilda Emerson and Frances Barnwell; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Lafaye Posey

Lafaye Ann Posey, 76, of Guin passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at her residence.
Born November 23, 1947, in St. Paul, Minn., she was the daughter of the late Harry Robert Learn and Lillie Mae Miller and the wife of Foy Lee Posey.  She had lived in Guin most of her life and attended the Guin First Free Will Baptist Church.  She loved gardening, working in her flowers and cooking.

Bradley Bowles

Mr. Bradley Dennis Bowles, 36, of the Hubbertville community, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024. Brad was born on July 15, 1987, in Winfield to Dennis and Teresa Dunavant Bowles. He was a 2005 graduate of Hubbertville High School. Brad worked for many years with Crimson Oak Grove Mines before moving to 3M Manufacturing where he was currently employed. In his spare time, Brad was an avid outdoorsman who loved deer hunting. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially football, and spending time with family and friends.

Emma Jean Sanderson

Emma Jean Sanderson, 85, of Hamilton, passed away Monday, May 20, 2024, at her residence.
Born February 24, 1939, in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late Malcolm Daniel and Ruby Hazel Mobley McDaniel and the wife of Marlis Eugene Sanderson. She lived in Orange Beach and Hamilton most of her life and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hamilton.

Linda Trull

Mrs. Linda Marie Langley Trull, 79, of Winfield, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024, in the Princeton Baptist Medical Center. Mrs. Trull was born in Winfield on April 18, 1945, to Franklin and Betty Hollis Langley. Linda was a member of the Winfield First Baptist Church and in earlier years was very involved in teaching Sunday School and other church activities. She was a 1963 graduate of Winfield High School and attended college where she earned a degree in Cosmetology.

Linda Perry

Linda Sue Butler Perry, 78, of Jackson, Tenn., formerly of Winfield, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at her residence. Mrs. Perry was born in Marion County on November 16, 1945 to Columbus and Susie Lee Butler. She was a 1964 graduate of Winfield High School. Linda and her husband lived in Jackson, Tenn. for more than 50 years where she was a faithful member of the Campbell Street Church of Christ where she often taught Bible class. She exemplified the message of James 1:9 throughout her life, which states, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous.

Kermit Key

Mr. Kermit K Key, 79, of Winfield, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, in the Diversicare Nursing Facility. Mr. Key was born on December 23, 1944, in Carbon Hill to Mack Nolan and Edith Darty Key. Kermit was a logger for many years before beginning his own lawn care business which he ran until his retirement. When he wasn’t working Kermit enjoyed watching westerns, fishing, listening to old country music, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Curtis Kendrick, Sr.

RET SFC Curtis Kendrick, Sr. passed away May 18, 2024, peacefully at his home in Hamilton surrounded by his family. Curtis Kendrick, Sr. was born July 28, 1939, in Northport, Ala. to James Blackshire Kendrick and Leota (Strahan) Kendrick. He was one of twelve children, survived by one brother, Fred Stanley Kendrick.

Olan Cunningham

Olan Bradford Cunningham, 92, of Winfield, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Country Place Senior Living in Winfield. He was born on January 15, 1932, in Kansas, Ala. to Elijah and Flora Cunningham. Olan attended public schools in Walker County and graduated from Winfield High School in 1951. He attended Auburn University on scholarship and received a Bachelor’s degree in education in 1954 and his Master’s degree in agriculture in 1955. After graduating college, Olan was a teacher and coach at Hubbertville High School and Red Bay High School.

LouNell Cagle

Mrs. LouNell Cagle, 96, of Brilliant, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, surrounded by her family at her daughter’s residence in Purvis, Miss. LouNell was born in Lamar County, Ala. on July 19, 1927 to Leroy and Ora Mae McKay Barnes. Following her marriage to Kermit Cagle, they lived in Brilliant. She was a devoted member of the Brilliant Freewill Baptist Church. She retired from the Marion County School District where she was a lunchroom worker and bus driver. She loved all her school kids.

Marie Weeks

Marie Darby Weeks, 97, of Winfield, entered her heavenly home on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, in the Sunset Manor Nursing Facility. She born in Lutts, Tennessee on September 14, 1926. She graduated from Central High School in Lauderdale County and then went to Florence State Teachers’ College (UNA). There she received a teaching degree in English and Social Studies. She began her teaching career in the Marion County Schools where she taught for over 40 years. While teaching, she was involved with various school activities and clubs.

Olan Lee

Olan Lee, 92, of Hamilton, passed away May 9, 2024, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born June 4, 1931, to the late Adell and Bertha Harris Lee.

Rose Marie Carothers

Rose Marie was born on August 5, 1941 to Christian Craig Yonge and Augusta Marie McGlamery Yonge in Americus, Georgia. She became the little sister to George Stephen Yonge who resides in Orlando, Florida. At 16, she became the elder sister to Christian Craig Yonge Jr. who died at the tender age of 13.

Jimmie Whisnant

Jimmie Lee Whisnant,77, of Hamilton, passed away on May 10, 2024, at home. He was born April 3, 1947 in Russellville to the late Talmadge “Pete” and Helen Whisnant. He had been a machinist at NTN Bower. Jimmie was also a Veteran that served with the Air Force.
Survivors include wife, Frances Whisnant; children, Chad (Vicki) Whisnant, Brad (April) Whisnant, and Brent (Hilary) Whisnant; granddaughters, Ana Kathrine, Caroline, Mallory, and Brynlee Whisnant; and sister, Jan (Neal) Vick.

Betty Vogt

Betty M. Vogt, 102, of Hamilton passed away May 14th at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born January 9,1922 in Auburn, Indiana to parents Howard and Mabel Steckley. In 1940, she and her parents moved to Cleveland, Ohio. There she met and married Birt Vogt in 1953. Tired of the snow and cold weather, the family moved to Arizona in 1959, living there until she moved to Hamilton in 2017.

Brian Parris

Brian Sean Parris, 55, of Cortland, Ohio passed away on Wednesday,  April 24, 2024, at Mercy Health-St. Joseph Warren Hospital.
He was born in San Jose, Calif. on September 25, 1968, to John Parris and Rita McKee Parris.
Brian graduated in 1987 from Hackleburg High School. He loved working with his hands, fishing, model cars, his saxophone, and most of all, he loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Porshia Beth Parris; mother, Rita Parris; and sister, Vicky McKee.

Albert McCullar

Albert McCullar, 69, of Vina, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024, at his residence.
He was born in Michigan on July 02, 1954, to Hubert McCullar and Virginia Green McCullar.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Virginia Green McCullar; and his brother, Larry McCullar.

Tim Hubbert

Mr. Timothy Rex Hubbert, 56, of Winfield, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at his residence. Tim was born in Winfield on July 29, 1967 to Dunny Rex and Gloria Dodd Hubbert. He was a 1985 graduate of Hubbertville High School. Tim spent much of his life employed as a carpenter before becoming disabled. In his spare time, Tim enjoyed reading and spending time with family and friends.

Tim Foster

Mr. Timothy Wayne Foster better known as Tim, 55, of the Glen Allen community passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at his residence. Tim was born in Fayette on Dec. 19, 1968, to Wayne Foster and Sharlene McGee Foster Stough. He was a graduate of Hubbertville High School. Tim served his country for 20 years in the United States Navy before retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. He was an avid Alabama fan and enjoyed going to home games for many years with his grandfather and aunt Sherry. In his spare time, Tim enjoyed reading, antiquing, and thrifting.

Doug Doss

Mr. Douglas Leland Doss, better known as Doug,  82, of the Bazemore community passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at his residence. Mr. Doss was born in Winfield on March 10, 1942, to Bob and Mary Jo May Doss. Doug attended Whites Chapel Church of Christ and was a 1961 graduate of Winfield City High School. He was employed with Reltoc Manufacturing for 10 years before moving to the Fayette County Commission where he worked as an equipment operator for 25 years until his retirement. In his spare time, Doug was an avid hunter.

Lance Ballard

Eron “Lance” Ballard, son of Awyer and Era Ballard, born Aug. 10, 1938, passed away April 29, 2024.
He is survived by his special love, Nella Mae Knight Carlton; special 11-year-old friend, Bryleigh Carlton; devoted caregivers, Perry Carlton , Jo and Merle Wightman, who were also extra special friends; also son, Tracy Ballard; his devoted stepfamily for many wonderful years, Kelly Shoemaker Eickleberry, Keven Shoemaker and Kathy Shoemaker Rygh; his dear grandchildren andgreat-grandchildren; and brother, Benny Ballard.

Elbert Thompson, Sr.

Elbert Leon Thompson Sr . 83, lovingly known as Papa, of Guin went to be with Jesus on April 25, 2024, surrounded by loved ones at UAB. Born and raised in Sulligent, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, and Christian. He spoke often of his faith, read his Bible every morning with his coffee, and showed love and kindness to those around him. He was a hardworking, strong man, Navy Veteran, fisherman, avid collector of antiques, and will be extremely missed by those who knew and loved him.

Syble Inez Humphries, 87, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Marion Regional Nursing Home in Hamilton. She was born in Vina, Ala. to James K. Vardman Clanton and Gerthie Lucertta Emerson Ackers Clanton. She worked for NTN Bower and was a member of Pearly Gates Church of God of Prophecy.

Becky Compton

Mrs. Rebecca Perry Compton, better known as Becky, 69, of Winfield passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024, in the Sunset Manor Nursing Facility.  Becky was born in Marion County, Ala. on Oct. 17, 1954 to Byron and Amogene Estes Perry. She was a member of Harmony Grove Baptist church and attended Winfield City High School.  She was employed for much of her life as a seamstress in the garment manufacturing industry. In her spare time, Becky enjoyed spending time with her family and loving and taking care of animals.

Jananne Stricklin

Jananne Fields Stricklin, or as most know her, “Nanny,” 77, passed away on April 21, 2024. Jananne was born on March 31, 1947 in Brilliant where she was a lifelong resident. She was a member of the Brilliant Free Will Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She spent many years serving her community as part of the city council. Jananne spent most of her career selling Insurance and part-time at Wal-Mart until her retirement. If you knew Jananne, she was working. Shortly after her retirement, she went back to work as the hostess/face of Mookie’s Smokehouse in Winfield.

Debra Joan Banta, 70, of Red Bay, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, in the Generations of Red Bay. Debra was born May 7, 1953 in Jasper, AL to Cefos Lee Green and Mamie Louise Markem Green.

Dee Ann Cook

Mrs. Dee Ann Cook,  79, of Winfield, formerly of the Birmingham area, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, in the Marion Regional Nursing Facility. Mrs. Cook was born on Oct. 26, 1944 in Guin, Alabama to J.D. and Mary Lee McKay Franks. She was a member of Sparks Gap Baptist Church in Birmingham and a graduate of Marion County High School. Dee Ann was employed for many years with UAB Health Service Foundation until her retirement. In her spare time Dee Ann enjoyed living a very simple life.

Tiffany Louise Matlock Horne, 30, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. Tiffany was born on July 5, 1993 in Memphis, Tennessee to Kenneth Sr. and Tammy Pittman Matlock. She attended Winfield City High School. Tiffany spent much of her life as a homemaker caring for her husband and children. In her spare time, Tiffany enjoyed a simple life.

Mary Nix

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Nix, 86, of Winfield entered into her Heavenly home on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at her daughter’s home surrounded by family and friends. Mrs. Nix was born on Dec. 2, 1937, In Fayette, Alabama to Edd and Icy Tidwell Tucker. Mary was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandma, and friend to many. She was well known as “Nanny” to her grandkids. She spent many years employed with Cotler Manufacturing at the Reltoc plant, after its closing she began working for Northwest Regional Health where she later retired after 23 years of service.
