Johnny Byrd

Johnny Paul Byrd, 79, of Hamilton passed away on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024 at his residence.
He was born Oct. 28, 1944 in Marion County to the late John Henry and Era Carter Byrd. He was a timber cruiser for W.T. Vick Lumber Company here in Hamilton for 20 plus years until it closed down. After that, he sold timber for Horn Brothers Lumber for several years. During all of this time, he was also the owner of J.P. Byrd Logging until his retirement at age 72.

Martha Dean Willcutt Rich, 68, of Brilliant passed away Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024. Survivors include sons, James Ray (Mary) Rich of Mobile, Kevin Wallace (Sandy) Rich of Winfield, and Jeffrey Norman (Ashley) Rich, Ecru, MS; 12 grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Nora Fay Wright, 86, of Hamilton passed away Friday, Feb. 2, 2024 at the Marion Regional Nursing Home. She was born Sept. 4, 1937 in Marion County to the late Alton and Bessie Sullins Wright.

James Sudduth

James James Clyde Sudduth, 95, of Hamilton passed away Feb. 6, 2024 at the North Miss. Medical Center in Hamilton. He was born on Oct. 12, 1928 in Hamilton to the late James Elton and Monterie Cook Sudduth. He served in the Korean War.
Mr. Sudduth is survived by his wife, Charlene Sudduth; daughter, Kathy S. Graben of Pike Road, Ala.; grandson, James Clay Graben (Macy) of Pente Vedra Beach, Fla.; great-granddaughter, Lucy James Graben; and sister, Betty Fay Wray of Muscle Shoals.

James Rexford Green, 79, of Hamilton passed away on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2024, at Walker Baptist Medical Center.
He was born in Hamilton on Saturday, Oct. 28, 1944, to Duel W. Green and Lavonia Giddy Green.
He leaves to cherish his memories, sister, Deborah Husley; nieces, Ashby Fields, Emily Husley, Beverly Husley; great nephews, Justin Fields, Jacob Mackly, Caleb Mackly, Mason Angwin; and a host of cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Duel W. Green and Lavonia Giddy Green; sister, Brenda Brooks and Angela Oliver.

Shane Fowler

Shane Fowler, 53, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024 surrounded by family.
A 1989 graduate of Winfield High School, he moved to Tuscaloosa to attend the University of Alabama and then to UAB Birmingham to graduate with a doctorate degree in Optometry.
Shane moved to Destin, Fla., in 1997 with his former wife, Misty, and opened his first optical business. They also enjoyed frequent trips to Europe and started their dream of opening an antique business.

Danny Estes

William Danathan Estes, better known as “Danny”, 47, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024 in the North Miss. Medical Center. Danny was born on Feb.15, 1976 in Madison County, Ala. He was a resident of the Hubbertville community for most of his life and attended Hubbertville High School. Danny was employed in the mobile home industry for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and spending time with family and friends.

Mary Jim Black

Mary Jim Black, 96, a long-time resident of Winfield and most recently of Birmingham passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 4th surrounded by the people she loved. Mary Jim was employed by the Northwest Regional Library for many years.

Mary Jim was preceded in death by her parents Monroe and Edna Gann, and by her beloved husband, of 74 years, Edwin Black.

She is survived be her daughters, Miriam Black Smith, Jane Black Percy; son-in-law, Alan Percy; grandchildren,  Ann Lane, Meredith Lane (Joseph) Lee, and Jason and Gann Smith.

Marty Emerson

Marty Willard Emerson, 62, of Muscle Shoals passed away on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024 at his residence.
He was born in Zion, Ill. on Wednesday, March 1, 1961 to Willard Preston Emerson and Marylon Boyett Emerson.
Marty was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Muscle Shoals.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his daughter, Melanie Heineman (Rob); grandchildren, Anna, Rebecca, Paul, Hayden Heineman; parents, Willard and Marylon Boyett Emerson; brother, Greg Emerson (Terri); host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Jeff Miles

William Jeffery Miles, better known as Jeff, 54, of Winfield passed away on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024 in the Northwest Medical Center in Winfield. Jeff was born in Fayette on Jan. 1, 1970 to Marie Miles Whithead and Harry Williams. Jeff was a lifelong resident of Winfield.  He was a member of the Zion Missionary Baptist Church and a 1988 graduate of Winfield City High School.  Jeff was employed for many years with Winfield Rubber Manufacturing Company. To know Jeff was to love him, always kind and loving to everyone he met.

Carroll Markham

Mr. Carroll Dean Markham, 83, of Brilliant passed away on Jan. 29, 2024 in the Princeton Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Markham was born in Guin on Oct. 14, 1940 to Lewis Anderson and Gertie Dill Markham. Carroll was a member of the Gum Springs Freewill Baptist Church and a 1960 graduate of Brilliant High School. He was employed with Brilliant Coal Company for more than 20 years and later Glen Allen Rail Company for 24 years until his retirement. In his spare time Carroll enjoyed reading and studying his Bible, working on various projects, and keeping up his home place.

Pamela Terrell

Pamela Carol Terrell, 56, of Guin passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024 in the Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama. She was born in Winfield, Alabama on June 15, 1967 to Hollie Jr. and Dorothy Jean Lipsey Terrell. Pamela was a member of Guin First Baptist Church and a 1985 graduate of Winfield City High School. Pamela was a very hardworking and determined lady that loved children. She worked for many years at various jobs in the surrounding area before her retirement. When she wasn’t working, Pamela enjoyed being a homemaker, cooking, and spending time with family.

Norma Smith

Mrs. Norma Jo Haney Smith, 89, of Hoover, formerly of Winfield passed away on Jan. 10, 2024 at her residence. Mrs. Smith was born in Winfield on June 18, 1934 to Obie and Pauline Reese Haney. Norma was a member of the First Baptist Church of Guin. She attended Kirklin Elementary School and Winfield High School where she graduated in 1953.Soon after taking her first job in Tuscaloosa, she met her husband James Smith, to whom she was married 59 years. Being the wife of an enlisted U.S.

Patty Flemming

Patricia “Patty” Lynn Fleming, age 67, of Hamilton, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at her residence.
She was born in Arkansas, on Friday, Dec.14, 1956, to George W. Martin and Voneta Howell Martin.
Patty and her husband, Stanley, had been married for 46 years. She was the love of his life.
She leaves to cherish her memories, husband, Stanley Fleming; son, Kyle Fleming, brother, Bill (Chris) Martin; nephew, Marty Martin; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Tiffany Dickinson

Tiffany Jade Dickinson, 27, of St. Petersburg, Fla. (formerly of Winfield) passed away on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024. Tiffany was born in Jasper, Ala. on Aug. 7, 1996. She was a member of the Winfield First Baptist Church and attended Winfield City High School. Tiffany spent much of her life as a homemaker and being a loving mother to her children.

Debra Joan Banta, 70, of Red Bay, AL. passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024 in the Generations of Red Bay. Debra was born May 7, 1953 in Jasper to Cefos Lee Green and Mamie Louise Markem Green.

Don Adkins

Mr. Don Edwin Adkins, 80, of Yampertown passed away on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024 at his residence. Mr. Adkins was born in Guin on July 27, 1943 to Mancel Moody and Essie Belle Haney Adkins. Don was a member of Center United Methodist Church and a graduate of Marion County High School. He spent much of his life employed in the oil field industry throughout Alabama and Mississippi before his retirement. Don was a huge Alabama Football fan and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Ruby Bernice (Hickman) Farris, 86, of Winfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at her home on Jan. 4, 2024.  She was born February 24, 1937, to Floyd Isaac and Mary Margaret (Miles) Hickman.

Lee Green

Lee Roy Green, 87, of Hamilton, formerly of Guin, passed away Sunday at his residence.
Born Aug. 16, 1936 in Guin, he is the son of the late Grady Lee and Stella Mae Harris Green and the husband of the late Nell Smith Green. He lived in Guin most of his life and was a member of the Guin Masonic Lodge and the Liberty Free Will Baptist Church. He was a retired locksmith and enjoyed fishing, riding down back roads, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and close friends.

Jonny Freeman

Mr. Jonny Horton Freeman, 75, of Brilliant passed away on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024 at his residence. Mr. Freeman was born in Tennessee on March 12, 1948 to Johnny and Lena Hendrick Freeman. Jonny was employed as an independent truck driver for more than 53 years before his retirement. In his spare time, Jonny enjoyed air boating and woodworking. Jonny especially enjoyed spending time with his wife and family; he will be remembered for being a loving husband, stepfather, and step-grandfather.

Susan Burnett

Mrs. Valerie Susan Spann Burnett, 64, of Winfield passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024 in the Northport Medical Center. Mrs. Burnett was born Feb. 14, 1959 in Winfield to Earnest Parker and Margaret Erwin Spann. Susan was a member of the Winfield First Baptist Church. She was a 1977 graduate of Winfield City High School and never missed a day. After high school, she attended the University of Alabama where she earned a master’s degree in Math and English. Susan taught school at Hamilton, Bear Creek, and Marion County Schools before her retirement after 25 years of service.

David Box

Mr. David Lee Box, 69, of Guin passed away on Friday, Jan. 19, 2024 in the DCH Medical Center. Mr. Box was born on Jan. 24, 1954 to Paul and Jewel Cannon Box. He attended Winfield City High School and was employed for many years with Hamilton Plastics before his retirement. David enjoyed fishing, being outdoors and spending time with his family.

Pauline Bass

Mrs. Pauline Bass was born Oct. 13, 1926, in Marion County, Ala. to John Wesley and Verla Holcomb Sexton. She passed away on Jan. 19, 2024 in the Ridgeview Health Care Center in Jasper, Ala. Mrs. Bass lived most of her life in the Gum Springs Community in Marion County. Mrs. Bass was employed with Mac Industries in Brilliant, until her retirement. After retiring from Mac Industries, Pauline worked with Home Health in Hamilton.

I.J. Whitehead

Clovis I.J. Whitehead was born Oct. 17, 1932 in Glen Allen, Ala. to William Whitehead and Lela Alice Dozier Whitehead.  He was the eighth child and the only son.  He married Edna Mae Turner Whitehead March 17, 1950 and they had five children. He was known for his tight fences, green pastures, fat cows and delicious watermelons.

Anita Vance

Mrs. Anita Kimbrell Vance, 68, of Guin passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024 in the Northwest Medical Center. Mrs. Vance was born in Winfield on Aug. 29, 1955 to J.C. and Daisy Dickinson Kimbrell. She was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church and a 1973 graduate of Winfield City High School. Anita spent much of her life as a homemaker, caring for her family. In her spare time Anita enjoyed singing and was always quick to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Judy Gann

Judith “Judy” McCarley Gann, 76, of Hamilton passed away on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024, at NMMC-Hamilton.
She was born in Hamilton on Monday, May 16, 1947 to Theron McCarley and Cecile Palmer McCarley.
She was a member of Hamilton Church of Christ. She taught Elementary School for over thirty years, beginning her career in Guin and the remaining years teaching first and second grade in Hamilton. She loved teaching and made many lifelong friends.

Shirley Dunavant

Mrs. Shirley Vaudine Dunavant, 83, of the Hubbertville Community passed away on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024 in the Walker Rehabilitation Center, Carbon Hill. Mrs. Dunavant was born in Carbon Hill on October 23, 1940 to William and Carrie Pendley Roberts. She was a member of the Whites Chapel Church of Christ. Shirley was employed as a cafeteria worker with Hubbertville School for 26 years until her retirement. In her spare time Shirley enjoyed traveling, and cooking, she was known by many for her delicious cakes.

Chloe Dearen

Frances Chloe Dearen entered this world on Sept. 19, 1931, and she entered her heavenly home on Jan. 8, 2024 at 6:30 am with her children by her side.  She was born in Hubbertville, Ala. to John Arthur Baker and Lona Lee Baker. She attended Winfield High School and graduated in 1950.  After graduating she helped her father run their local family store in Winfield, Alabama.  Her high school sweetheart, Hershel Dearen, was drafted into the US Army and served in the Korean Conflict. While on leave before heading for Korea, Hershel and Chloe decided to get married. They married on Dec.

Martha June Gosa Birmingham

Mrs. Martha June Gosa Birmingham, 78, of Guin, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, at her residence. Mrs. Birmingham was born in Winfield on May 28, 1945, to Veltha and Eunice Abbott Gosa. Martha was a member of the LoveJoy Freewill Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Hubbertville High School and a member of the Lamar County Genealogical Society. After high school, Martha married the love of her life, John Birmingham. Together they had four children and were married 61 years at the time of his death.

Anna Blake

Ms. Anna Pearl Blake, 94, of Jasper, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024, in the Cordova Health and Rehab Center. Ms. Blake was born in Centre, Ala., on May 8, 1929, to Malta and Elizabeth Doss Thompson. She was a member of the Brilliant Methodist Church and a 1947 graduate of Brilliant High School. Anna Pearl spent her life caring for her home and family. She enjoyed traveling and shopping in her spare time.

Colleen Bowen Everette Bunn

Mrs. Colleen Bowen Everette Bunn, 95, of Fayette, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, in the Fayette Long Term Care Facility. Colleen was born Jan. 5, 1929, to Odie and Ada Belle Head Bowen. She was a member of the Rehobeth Baptist Church. Colleen attended Winfield City High School and later Hubbertville High School where she graduated in 1947. She spent much of her life employed with area sewing plants in Fayette and Berry before moving to Walmart where she worked for more than 15 years before her retirement.

Mary A. Morrison

Ms. Mary A. Morrison, 81, of Winfield, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024, at her residence. Ms. Morrison was born in Michigan on Dec. 25, 1942, to Alex and Alta Bagley Benny. She was a member of the Guin First Freewill Baptist Church. Mary spent much of her life working in the home, taking care of her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles.

Wanda Ingle

Wanda Renee Jackson Ingle, 58, of Hackleburg, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024, at her residence.

She was born in Haleyville on Monday, July 5, 1965, to Billy Joe Jackson and Betty Sue Lolley Cook.  

She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Brent Ingle; children, Britni Ingle, Hilari (Ethan) Bray, Joey (Kaula) Ingle; grandchildren, Kade Raper, Christina Viernes, Lyric Ingle; brother, Tim (Courtney) Cook; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relative and friends.

Mr. Stephen Wayne Pridmore, better known as Steve, 70, of Winfield, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024, at his residence. Mr. Pridmore was born in Winfield on Feb. 21, 1953, to L.J. Pridmore and Jo Ann Miller Box. He was a 1970 graduate of Winfield City High School. Steve spent much of his life employed with the United States Postal Service as a mail contractor before his retirement after 30 years of service. In his spare time, Steve enjoyed watching Alabama football, farming, fishing, going to the beach and spending time with his family.
