Allegations raised of abuse at day care facility

WINFIELD — Several parents have leveled allegations of abuse toward New Dawn Daycare in Winfield beginning in early January of 2026.
Allegations range from direct abuse, neglect or mistreatment of a child by staff, or staff not notifying parents of abuse of their child by another student.
On Jan. 7, Hannah Spiller said she was made aware of an incident that took place on Dec. 5, 2025, in which her young special needs daughter was held down during nap time.
“On Dec. 5, my special needs child was restrained during nap time at her daycare,” Spiller said. “When the incident first occurred, I was only told part of the truth. I was not informed that my child’s mouth was covered or that her leg was being held down. Instead, the situation was described to me as the employee being ‘lazy,’ that it was ‘not a good fit,’ and that the job was ‘too stressful’ for her.
“On Jan. 7, after another case came to light, I began asking questions. Multiple workers came forward, and I was finally told the full truth about what happened to my child. To say I am physically sick over this is an understatement.
