Betty Ann Miles

Mrs. Betty Ann Miles, 79, of Winfield, Ala. passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023, in the DCH Regional Medical Center. Betty was born on October 8, 1943, in Winfield to Bennie and Annie Howton Bussey. Mrs. Miles was a member of the Guin Freewill Baptist Church and a 1962 graduate of Winfield City High School. She spent much of her life employed with Reltoc Manufacturing, from where she retired after 30 years of service. In her spare time, Betty enjoyed sewing, making crafts, drawing, and painting.

Clarence Adolph Sanders, Jr

Clarence Adolph "Jack' Sanders, Jr., 82, of Guin, Ala., passed away April 7, 2023 at Sunset Manor in Guin. Funeral services were Friday, April 14, 2023 at Guin First Baptist Church with Bro. Zane Miles and Bro. Kenny Hatcher officiating. Burial followed in Gordo City Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Scott Duncan.

William Charles Babb

William Charles Babb, 78, passed away at his home on Sunday, April 2, 2023. Charles was born on January 6, 1945, in Pickens County, Ala., to Kitty Mae and Olon Babb. He graduated high school in 1963 from Palmetto High School in Pickens County, where he played football and baseball. Charles spent a majority of his professional career in the banking industry, beginning at the age of 26 at Merchant and Farmers Bank in Millport, Ala. He moved his family to Marion County in the late 1970s, where he continued his banking career.

Kaleb Wesley Chandler

Kaleb Wesley Chandler, 22, of Hamilton, passed away March 29, 2023. He was born July 7, 2000 in Winfield, Ala.
Funeral services were held on Sunday April 2, 2023 at the Happy Hill Church with Patrick Sutton officiating. Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery.

Johnnie C. Lindsey

Johnnie C. Lindsey, 92, of Winfield, Ala., passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, in the Sunset Manor Nursing Facility in Guin, Ala. She was born on July 3, 1930 in Hamilton, Ala. to Elmer Hugh and Ellen Dill Cooper. Johnnie was a 1949 graduate of Hamilton High School and an active member of the Winfield First Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School for many years and served on the church bereavement committee. Johnnie was the owner/operator of her own boutique store, “Johnnie’s Modern Ms.” in Winfield for many years. Johnnie was known by her friends and family as a real “Firecracker”.

Ruth Mae Tittle

Mrs. Ruth Mae Tittle, 91, of Brilliant, Ala., passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2023, in the Ridgeview Health Care Center in Jasper, Ala. Ruth Mae Barnes Tittle was born on July 23, 1931, in Lamar County, Ala. to Jacob Lee Roy Barnes and Ora Mae McKay Barnes. She loved Brilliant and graduated from Brilliant High School in 1950. She married the love of her life, Howard Tittle, on January 22, 1952. Ruth and Howard welcomed their son, Charles, to the world in October of that year, and their daughter, Teresa, in September of 1959. “Mama Tittle” was the name given to Ruth by her grandchildren.

Wanda Faye Davis, 78, of Hackleburg, Ala., passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Arabella Health and Wellness of Russellville, Ala.
She was born in New Mexico on Tuesday, January 30, 1945, to Mack & Mildred (Lowery) Reno.

Rollie June "Spodo" Wallace, 76, of Guin, Ala, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at his residence. Rollie was born on June 6, 1946 in Lamar County, Ala. to the late R.D. Wallace and the late Annie Dell Smith Wallace. He attended school in Guin. Rollie worked doing lawn care for the City of Guin for many years. He enjoyed being outdoors and especially loved fishing. Rollie was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.

Deroy Fowler Jr.

Mr. Deroy Fowler Jr., better known as “Roy”, 70, of Winfield, Ala., passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 in Diversicare of Winfield. Mr. Fowler was born in Fayette County, Ala. on August 21, 1952 to Deroy Edward Sr. and Clara South Fowler. Roy attended Hubbertville High School. He spent much of his life employed as a mechanic for McCraw’s Shop in Hubbertville, Ala., and later with Best Manufacturing in Fayette. In his spare time, Roy enjoyed doing yard work and going to flea markets and yard sales with his granddaughter.

Donald Marcus Wyers Sr.

Donald Marcus Wyers, Sr., 85, of Eldridge, Ala., entered into rest on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at UAB Hospital.
Family received friends on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home Chapel, with burial at Walker Memory Gardens. Derek Porter and Justin Guin officiated with Glen Robb officiating at the graveside service. Song leaders were Sean Wyers and Blake Guin.

Bobby Gene Marshall, 84, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, after an extended illness.
Bob was born in Winfield, Ala., on January 21, 1939, to Glen and Adell Dickinson Marshall. He was a member of the Winfield Church of Christ and a 1957 Winfield High School graduate.

David Scott Eads

Mr. David Scott Eads, better known as Scott, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023 in Pensacola, Fla.  Scott was born in Winfield, Ala. on March 17, 1953 to Jimmie and Martha Elizabeth Musgrove Eads. Scott grew up in Winfield and was a 1971 graduate of Winfield High School. He had a passion for cars and playing baseball. Shortly after graduating, he met the love of his life, Melba. Both were members of Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. They resided in Fayette, Ala.

Doris Brown Cannon

Doris Brown Cannon, 76, of Guin, Ala., passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Miss.   
Doris was born on December 27, 1946 in Beaverton, Ala. to the late Felix Otts and the late Verla Mae Johnson Otts. She attended high school in Davenport, IA. Doris was employed at Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Guin, Ala. She was an Eastern Star member. Doris loved her family dearly and cherished spending time with her grandchildren.

Kerry D. Belk

Kerry D. Belk, 61, of Guin, Ala., passed away Monday, March 21, 2023 at his residence.
Born September 5, 1961 in Winfield, Ala., he is the son of the late Hazel Crocket and Frankie V. Belk, and the husband of Shelia Nelson Belk. He lived in Guin most of his life and was a member of the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church. He worked hard all of his life. He worked for Wood Perfect, Hamilton Home Builders, and he helped anyone who needed something done.

Clay Akers

Clay Akers, 85, of Guin, Ala., passed away Saturday, March 25, 2023 in the Sunset Manor Nursing Home.  
Born March 12, 1938 in Guin, he is the son of the late Woodie and Christine Shaw Akers. He lived in Guin most of his life and retired from working in the coal mines. He was a member of the Guin First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by a son, Mark (Debra) Akers; two grand daughters, Whitney Akers and Jennifer (Kevin) Callowy; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a brother, David (Florence) Akers.

Tracy Wayne Poling Sr.

Tracy Wayne Poling Sr., 56, of Hamilton, Ala., passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at his residence.
He was a God-loving man, who loved his children, grandchildren, his friends, and his beloved dogs.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Tammy Colburn Poling, and his adopted parents.
He leaves to cherish his memories his sons, Tracy Poling Jr. (wife, Natasha Gilliand) and Austin Poling; grandchildren, Toren Poling, Zura Mae Poling, Joann Poling; stepsons, Erick and Chris Hulon; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Martha “Faye” Pittman

Mrs. Martha “Faye” Pittman, 90, of Winfield, Ala., went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, March 18, 2023. Born on Feb. 25, 1933, she was the youngest of five daughters born to John Thomas and Hattie Weeks.

Kenny Fowler

Kenny Fowler, 64, of Winfield, Ala., passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at his residence. Funeral services were held on Friday, March 24, 2023 with cremation following services. Burial of cremains will be in the Guin City Cemetery at a later date. Bro. Jimmy May to officiate.  

Maelean Cummings

Mrs. Maelean Cummings, 82, of Brilliant, Ala. passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023 in the Sunset Manor Nursing Facility. Mrs. Cummings was born in Marion County, Ala. on May 11, 1940 to Jim and Felicia Hugley Hulsey. Mrs. Cummings spent much of her life as a homemaker, taking care of her family and children. In her spare time, Maelean enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, and working in her flower beds.

Mae Rene Franks Crowe

Mrs. Mae Rene Franks Crowe, 88, of the Twin community passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at her residence. Mae Rene was born in Marion County, Ala. on May 8, 1934 to Gensis and Nola Davis Morrow. Mrs. Crowe was a member of the Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church and a 1952 graduate of Marion County High School. She was employed for many years with Munsingwear of Guin and SouthTrust Bank until her retirement. Mae Rene was a very talented musician and loved to play the accordion. She enjoyed going to gospel singings, traveling, and taking care of her grandchildren.

Mary Roberts Cochran

Mrs. Mary Catherine Roberts Cochran, better known as Cathy, 90, of Guin, Ala., passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 in the Brookwood Medical Center. Mrs. Cochran was born in Mississippi on Feb. 15, 1933 to Sam and Willie Moses Rogers. Cathy spent much of her life as a homemaker, taking care of her family. In her spare time, Cathy enjoyed sewing, quilting, working in her flower garden, and fishing with her husband. Mrs. Cochran also loved traveling, especially going to the mountains and visiting casinos.

Annell Burleson

Mrs. Annell Burleson, 86, of Brilliant, Ala., passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023 in the St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. Mrs. Burleson was born in the Sunny Home area on April 16, 1936 to Walter Fred and Ceilie Tittle Lambert. Annell attended Brilliant High School and was a member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ. She and her family have owned and operated B&B Lumber near Brilliant for the last 30 years. Mrs. Burleson enjoyed sewing and working in her flower beds. She and her husband also loved to travel and spend time at the lake.

Virginia Lee Ford Tritt

Virginia Lee Ford Tritt (affectionately known as Ginger) was born in Hamilton, Ala. and passed away on March 7, 2023 in Jacksonville, Fla. while surrounded by her family. Ginger is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arnold Tritt, to whom she was married for nearly 60 years. She leaves behind her loving sons Arnie (Danielle), Lee-ford, and John (Heather); and her grandchildren Lillie Rose, Lee-Ford, Noah, and Nathanial.

Jimmy Taylor, 88, formerly of Guin, Ala., passed away Saturday, March 11, 2023 in the Overton County Health and Rehab in Livingston, Tenn.
Born Dec. 14, 1934 in Lamar County, Ala., he is the son of the late Jessie Olen and Sammie Lee Roberts Taylor, and the husband of the late Mary Jo Duncan Taylor. He lived in Lamar County most of his life, retired from 3M, and was a Veteran, having served in the US Army. He was a member of the Union Chapel Baptist Church.

Brandon Kyle Stephens

Mr. Brandon Kyle Stephens, 46, of Madisonville, La., passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023, in Slidell, La.  Kyle was born was Aug. 10, 1976, in Covington, La., to Jerry L. “Pete” Stephens and Melinda Kay Norris. Kyle attended Cathedral Christian in Center Point, Ala. until he moved to Louisiana in 1995. He attended Covington High School and later attended Southeastern Louisiana University, where he received a degree in Criminal Justice.

Denise Cooper Stein

Denise Cooper Stein, 66, of Detriot, Ala., passed away on March 2, 2023, surrounded by her family in Wisconsin.
Denise was a kind and thoughtful soul and will be missed and remembered by the many lives she touched. Even in the face of her own illness, Denise remained a steadfast friend and confidant to everyone she knew. She enjoyed helping people and she would love to be remembered with funny, strange, or silly stories that celebrate what was good and blessed in her life.

Bobby Elton Kelley

Mr. Bobby Elton Kelley, 86, of Winfield, Ala., passed away on Friday, March 10, 2023 at his residence. Mr. Kelley was born on May 2, 1936 in Bankston, Ala. to Carlos and Sylvia Gray Kelley. He was a graduate of Bankston High School and later served his country in the United States Navy. Bobby was employed as a machinist with Rockford Products in Rockford Ill. for more than 20 years. In his spare time, Bobby loved to shoot skeet, often competing in tournaments. He also liked woodworking and fishing.

Elvie Faye Boyles

Elvie Faye Boyles, 87, of Hamilton, passed away on Monday, March 6, 2023, at the Marion Regional Nursing Home after a brief illness.
Faye is survived by her son, Jamie Taylor; brother, Harold (Elaine) Snider; sister, Dollie (Derrel) Adams, sister-in-law, Ethel Snider; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Faye was preceded in death by two husbands, Otis Stephens and Omer Boyles; her parents, Willy J. and Delphia Snider; sisters, Mae Avery and Mavis Chambless; brothers, Bill and Leonard Snider.

Dennis Dale Belk

Mr. Dennis Dale Belk, 63, of Winfield, Ala. passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 in the DCH Regional Medical Center. Mr. Belk was born on July 28, 1959 in Hamilton, Ala. to Donald and Mary Potts Belk. Dennis attended Hamilton High School. He spent more than 45 years employed as a meat cutter, working with Ivies Supermarket, Piggly Wiggly, and Winn-Dixie. In his spare time, Dennis enjoyed watching westerns, nature, birdwatching, and gardening. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children, and dog, “Molly”.

Charlotte Garrison

Charlotte Garrison, 69, of the Wayside Community, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023 in the Northport Medical Center.
Born Aug. 31, 1953 in Guin, Ala., she is the daughter of the late Samuel Harkins and Kathleen McDonald Garrison.  She lived in the Wayside Community most of her life and was a member of the Mt. Willing Free Will Baptist Church.  Charlotte was an avid Alabama Fan. She never met a stranger and loved everyone.

Raymond Roger Heath

Mr. Raymond Roger Heath, 79, of Crestview, Fla, formerly of Winfield, Ala., passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023 in the North Okaloosa Medical Center. Mr. Heath was born in Winfield on March 19, 1943 to Tommy and Emma Bass Heath. Raymond was a member of the First Baptist Church of Crestview and a 1962 graduate of Hubbertville High School. He served his country in the United States Marine Corp and was a Vietnam Veteran. Raymond was employed with U.S. Borax Chemical Corporation for 28 years. Raymond was a licensed contractor and loved to build houses and do carpentry work.

Alice Marie Hill

Mrs. Alice Marie Hill, better known as Marie, age 94, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., formerly of Winfield, Ala., passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023 in the Crimson Village Assisted Living Facility in Tuscaloosa. Mrs. Hill was born on Aug. 19, 1928 in Gattman, Miss. to Isaiah and Virgie Lockhart Hollis. Marie was a 1946 graduate of Sulligent High School and later attended Massie Business College. She was a member of the Winfield First Methodist Church. Mrs. Hill spent much of her life employed with the Winfield First Methodist Church as the secretary until her retirement in 2012 after 49 years.

Myra Kay Hollis

Myra Kay Hollis, 52, of Winfield, Ala., passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at her residence.
Born Nov. 6, 1970 in Winfield, she was the daughter of Joe and Judy Nix Benton, and the wife of Darren Hollis.  She lived in Guin, Ala. and Winfield most of her life, was a member of the En Avant Study Club, and helped with the Toy Bowl in Guin many years. She worked for State Bank and Trust for the past 28 years and was a member of the Guin First Baptist Church.
