John Barry Mixon
John Barry Mixon, 77, of Tuscaloosa, passed away at his home on Sunday, April 20, 2025. A beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Barry lived a life marked by kindness, humility, and quiet strength.
Born on Feb. 11, 1948, and raised in Hamilton, Barry was a proud graduate of Hamilton High School and Florence State University.
He served in the Army National Guard and built a successful career in the manufactured housing industry, making his lasting mark at Buccaneer Homes and Cavalier Homes.
In retirement, Barry and his beloved wife Pam enjoyed attending sporting events at the University of Alabama, often traveling wherever the Tide went. He also cherished traveling with his children and grandchildren and spending time with his best buddy, Tank. When he wasn’t supporting his family in their many activities, Barry found great peace on the golf course, remaining an avid golfer throughout his life.
A United Methodist for the majority of his life, his walk with Christ led him to the Church of the Highlands in Tuscaloosa where he was very active in small groups and serving on the dream team.
Barry was a fighter, beating pancreatic cancer and battling liver cancer and a massive stroke with strength of spirit and vigor.
Whether offering a helping hand or a listening ear, Barry made a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His presence was a gift, and his absence will be deeply felt by many.
Barry is survived by his wife, Pamela Godsey Mixon; children, Stacy Rutherford Page (Todd), Jonathan Heath Mixon (Patrick) and Tyler Brant Bowen (Anna); grandchildren, Madeleine Page, Mackenzie Polson (Brady), Jon Robert Page, Violet Bowen and Ruby Bowen; and a host of other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ann and W.B. “Buddy” Mixon, and brother, Will Mixon.
A celebration of his life was held on April 23 at Hamilton Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the West Alabama Food Bank (westalabamafoodbank.org) or the William B. Mixon Family Early College Endowed Scholarship Fund (give.ua.edu).
