Mr. Marvin Aubrey “Watermelon” Norris, 83, of Northport, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at his home. Marvin was born on April 14, 1942, to Marvin A. and Jessie Shirey Norris of Brilliant. Marvin served in the U.S. National Guard for seven years. He later worked on nuclear submarines in Mississippi, before moving on to BF Goodrich, where he worked until his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, watching Alabama football and spending time with his family.
Mr. Norris is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marcelle Norris; daughters, Donna Huie (Bert) of Tennessee, Dana Hoyle (Jeff) of Tuscaloosa and Tanya Simmons (Michael) of Northport; sister, Gustave McKenzie; grandchildren, Justin Hoyle (Kelcie), Trent Huie (Jessica), Kate Campbell (Garrett), Lindsey Hoyle, Shelby Simmons, Courtney Christian (Parker), Kasey Phillips (Austin) and Tyler Simmons, 14 great-grandchildren, two beloved pets; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
Mr. Norris was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Jessie Norris; brothers, Felton Norris and Donald Norris; sisters, Geneva Corkren and Mavis Price.
Funeral services for Mr. Norris were held on April 29, 2025, at the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Union Chapel Cemetery.
