Black-Miller Reunion

Sunday, Oct. 21
The annual Black-Miller Reunion will be held at Providence Church on Lamar County Road 57, Providence Road. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. with the worship service beginning at 11 a.m. with Bro. Teddy Jacks bringing the message. Those planning to attend are asked to please bring a covered dish for lunch at noon. Fellowship will continue into the afternoon.

Wayside Community Club

Saturday, Nov. 3
The Annual Community Fall Barbecue Supper for the Wayside Community Club will be held at 12049 Highway 107. Dine-in or carryout plates will be available for $10, with plates for children 10 and under for $5. Plates will include barbecue with slaw, baked beans, dessert, bread and drink. All proceeds go for the operation of the Wayside Community Center.

Tri-County Beekeepers Association

Tuesday, Oct. 16

The Tri-County Beekeepers Association (Fayette, Lamar and Marion counties) will meet at 7 p.m. at the State Bank and Trust, located at 7370 US Highway 43 in Guin. Ricky Sims, an Independent Insurance Agent from Hamilton, will discuss insurance options with keeping honeybees. Anyone interested in learning more about honeybees is welcome to attend. Marion County Extension Office


Tuesday, Oct. 16
The Marion County Extension Office, located at 372 7th Avenue Southwest in Hamilton, will conduct a class on “Homemade Christmas Gifts Come From The Heart.” Featured will be The 12 Jars of Christmas Program, which will include making jams and jellies that will be enjoyed throughout the holiday season. Times for the morning will begin at 10 a.m. and last until noon and the evening class will begin at 5 and run through 7. Information: Marion County Extension Office, 921-3551.

 

Marion County Education Retirees Association

Thursday, Oct. 18
The Marion County Education Retirees Association will meet at 11 a.m. at Cedar Landing Restaurant, located on Highway 129 in Winfield. Free flu  shots will be available for all retirees association members and free required wellness screenings (for those under  age 65) with insurance card will be available. Guest speakers will include Erica Thomas, PEEHIP, and Lynn Groff, UnitedHealthcare. The program will be on “Insurance Updates.”  The meeting is not sponsored and each attendee will be responsible for his own meal.

 

Bevill State Community College at the Hamilton Career Center

Tuesday, Oct. 16 The Hamilton Career Center, located at 1481 Military Street, South on the Hamilton Campus of Bevill State Community College, will host a Training Information Seminar from 9 - 10 a.m. Provided will be Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOTA) training assistance, Career Exploration, the college admissions process, labor market information and student financial aid. Marion, Fayette, and Lamar County Extension Offices

The Marion, Fayette, and Lamar County Extension Offices will host a hands-on demonstration for best practices in calibrating small farm equipment from 5 -  6:30 p.m. at the Winfield Experiment Station, located at 171 Experiment Loop. The class will consist of a short in-class presentation on the how’s, why’s and where’s for calibrating equipment, followed by an onsite, hands-on demonstration. The hands-on demonstration will consist of a multi-nozzle 3-point hitch sprayer, as well as an ATV spray rig. Please contact the Marion County Extension Office at 921-3551 to register.
