Damer Williams

Damer J. Williams, 92, of Hamilton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 12, 2019.
Damer was born on Oct. 1, 1926, in Marion County, Ala., where he went to school and worked with his family until be became a member of the United States Armed Forces and served during World War II. He was a navy seaman 2nd in the U.S. Navy on USS Battleship when the war ended fifteen months in battle.
After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy, he returned to Alabama and married the love of his life, Eva Dell Rye, and they were happily married for 72 years.

Beckham Lee Pinion

Beckham Lee Pinion, infant son of Alyssa Pinion, was born into the arms of Jesus at 10:27 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, in the UAB Medical Center.
In addition to his mother, Beckham is survived by his grandparents, Amanda Harkey and Josh Pinion; aunts, Jayden Brashier and her husband Tyler, and Bryn Meadows; cousins, Walker and Graham Brashier; and a host of other family members.
Beckham was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Eddie Harkey.
Memorial service details for Beckham will be announced at a later time.

Ilene was born on Jan. 22, 1946, in Winfield, to her mother, Louise Webster and her father, Arlington Webster. She was the younger sister of William Webster and Patricia Webb.

Dave Franks Sr.

Bro. Dave Franks Sr., 91, of Gardendale, Ala., formerly of Guin, passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2024, at his residence.
Born Oct. 5, 1932, in Marion County, he is the son of the late Howard Lincoln and Autie Lillian Maddox Franks and the husband of Patricia Lee Sturgill Franks. He had served as a foreign missionary to Brazil with the Free Will Baptist International Missions for 43 years. He was a member of the Mt. Olive Free Will Baptist Church.

Steve Spann

Mr. Steve Spann, 73, of Winfield, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024, in the Diversicare Nursing Facility. Steve was born in Winfield on Sept. 21, 1950, to Burney and Victoria Webb Spann. He spent much of his life employed as a carpenter throughout the area. In his spare time, Steve always enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Bobbie Anne Riley, 56, of Winfield, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024, in the Brookwood Baptist Medical Center. Bobbie was born in Hamilton, Ala., on July 25, 1968, to Bobby Sam and Grace Proehl Frye. She attended Faith Church and was a 1986 graduate of Hamilton High School. After graduation, Bobbie attended the University of North Alabama where she earned her degree in accounting and finance. She was employed with Tombigbee Electric for 13 years before she and her husband became the owner/operators of Backside BBQ in Hamilton.

Andreana Cole

Mrs. Andreana Darline Tucker Cole, 56, of the Hubbertville community, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, at her residence. She was born in Winfield on Aug. 15, 1968, to Herman and Darline Utley Tucker. Andreana was a lifelong resident of Hubbertville and a 1986 graduate of Hubbertville High School. Her greatest joy in life was her children and grandchildren, and she enjoyed spending her free time being with them and her family.

Michael Edward Chamblee

Michael Edward Chamblee, 67, of Hodges, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2024, in Franklin County, Ala. He was born in Detroit, Mich., and was a farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Chamblee; two sons, Jeremy Chamblee and Thomas Chamblee; two grandchildren, Marley Chamblee and Colton Chamblee; one sister, Rhonda Chamblee; brother-in-law, Robert Gibson and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronnie Edward Chamblee and Violet Jane Sanders Chamblee and his in-laws, Bobby and Rose Carden.

Ted Weeks

Mr. Ted Weeks, 91, of Winfield, passed from this life on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024, at his residence. He was the oldest of two children born to Max and Motie Belle Weeks on Aug. 4, 1933, in Pickens County, Ala. Ted had many jobs to do on his family’s small farm, plowing the fields with Ol’ Charley, protecting their chickens from predators, cleaning out the horse and cattle stalls and helping his dad on many miscellaneous projects.

Mrs. Dawn Marie Minor, 66, of Winfield, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024, in the UAB Medical Center. Mrs. Minor was born June 29, 1958, in Waukesha, Wis., to Douglas Mitchell and Lillian Smith Mikkelson. She was a 1977 graduate of Waukesha High School. Before her retirement, she spent 11 years as a sales associate with Walmart of Fayette. Dawn enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, riding motorcycles and always enjoying life.

Joe Lymon Jett Hollingsworth

Mr. Joe Lymon Jett Hollingsworth,  48, of Winfield, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024, in the UAB Highlands Hospital in Birmingham. Joe was born on Nov. 26, 1975, in Wayne, Mich., to Lymon Jett and Berma Hollingsworth. He was a 1993 graduate of Winfield City High School.
Joe is survived by his wife, Eleisha Willman Hollingsworth; his children, Alexus Coleman, Destinn Willman and Tejshun Willman; and his father, Lymon Jett.  He was preceded in death by his mother.
A memorial service for Joe was held on Aug. 23, 2024, at the Winfield Community Center.

Betty Mays Godsey, 86, of Hamilton, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024, at Marion County Nursing Home. She was born in Alabama on Oct. 1, 1937, to Howard Mays and Grace Glascock Mays.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Gary Godsey (Debra); grandchildren, Jamie Godsey (Kristen), Jackie Godsey, Amanda Bryant (Jeremy) Angie Blackstock, Shelby Patterson, Jared Jones; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Emmie, Bianca, Jazz, LeAnn, Colt and Brynleigh; sister, Linda Williams (Rene); a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mary Sue Davis Gann

Mary Sue Davis Gann, 89, of Hamilton, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at NMMC-Tupelo. She was born in Alabama on March 27, 1935, to Granville Davis and Margie Jackson Davis.
Mary was a loving mother, grandmother and aunt. She was a member of Hamilton Church of Christ and employed with Alabama Power company for 26 years.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Melanie Gann Barksdale; two grandchildren, Deagan Barksdale and Skylar (Ben) Kennedy; one great-grandchild, Gus Kennedy; and a host of nieces and nephews she loved dearly.

Frances Anne Green Busha

Mrs. Frances Anne Green Busha, 82, of Winfield, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, in the DCH Medical Center. Mrs. Busha was born in Brilliant on May 16, 1942, to Vandiver and Ora Lambert Green. She was a member of the Winfield Church of Christ and a 1960 graduate of Brilliant High School. Anne was a stay-at-home mother for many years. She was employed with Taylor & Son Coal Company in the accounting department. She later became a phlebotomist where she worked for Northwest Medical Center, Dr. Fowler and Dr. Cox until her retirement.

David Edmon Beaty

Brother David Edmon Beaty, 74, of Guin, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, just one day before his 75th birthday. Brother Beaty dedicated his whole life to serving the Lord. He preached the word of God for almost 60 years. He spoke almost 10,000 sermons and brought countless souls to know the Lord. He lived and breathed the word of God daily.

Dorothy Lindley

Dorothy Lindley, 88, of Guin passed away August 15, 2024, in the Huntsville Hospital.
Born November 22, 1935, in Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late Lee Roy and Kirksie Underwood Shirley and the Wife of Hoyt Lindley.  She lived in Guin most of her life and worked as a cook at the Guin Hospital and Sunset Manor Nursing Home before retiring. She was a member of the Guin First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Nix, 60, of Winfield, passed away on August 14, 2024, in the UAB Medical Center. Mrs. Nix was born in Illinois on May 25, 1964, to Don and Jackie Hawkins Johnson. She was a member of the Marion County Cowboy Church. Beth spent much of her life as a homemaker caring for her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bingo, cooking and cleaning, shopping, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends.

Ida Joann (Pennington) Hall

Ida Joann (Pennington) Hall, affectionately known as Joann, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024. She was born July 5, 1934, in Sulligent, Ala., the 9th of 10 children born to the late Eddie and Ramah Pennington. She received her education in the Alabama school system and was a graduate of Lamar County High School.

Mrs. Petra Dollar Davis, 66, of Winfield went to be with the Lord on Aug. 1, 2024, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born on Aug. 10, 1957, in Munich, Germany. Petra was adopted at 5 months old by Fred and Carmoleta Dollar. She was a member of Mosaic United Methodist Church of Winfield and a graduate of Fayette County High School. Petra loved to cook, bake, watch Alabama football even living in a house divided, her husband Roger, her family, her dog, Maycee, and God.

Larry Dean

Almus Larry Dean, 89, on July 23, 2024, took one last helicopter hop and returned to base. Happy Landing! Semper Fi. Do not mourn that which is lost.  Instead, rejoice in what you enjoyed.
He was born on March 19, 1935, in Durham, N.C. to Almus Lester and Elizabeth Wilson Deans.  Larry and his brother and sister lived at the Barium Springs Orphanage in North Carolina for about nine years before being reunited with their mother and stepfather.

Lane Emerson

William Lane Emerson, 54, of Florence passed away on May 24, 2024 at ECM in Florence. Lane was born to Joseph and Sue Osbirn Emerson on Sept. 20 1969, at Gilmore Hospital in Amory, Miss.
After graduating from Hamilton High School in 1987. Lane enrolled at Itawamba Community College where Lane then transferred to the University of North Alabama. There, he completed his degree in fine arts/graphic design. After graduation, Lane begin teaching at Bevill State Community College in Hamilton. Lane was employed there as the only art professor on that campus.

John Richard Lindley

John Richard Lindley, 37, of Detroit, Ala. passed away July 24, 2024, in the UAB Medical Center in Birmingham.
John Richard Lindley was born on Oct. 13, 1986, in Tupelo to Anthony Lindley and Rhonda Duncan Lindley. He attended Hamilton High School and graduated as an LPN from Bevill State Community College. John Richard worked with Northwest Alabama Mental Health Center and loved his patients dearly. He was a member of the Kingsville Church of Christ. John Richard used every opportunity he had to spread the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Joseph Miles

Joseph Ray Miles, 32, formerly of Guin, passed away at his home in Asheville, N.C. from an accidental overdose with a substance laced with fentanyl. He fought a long battle with addiction and had recently experienced freedom, joy and true happiness with over 4 months of sobriety.

James Palmer

James Leo Palmer Jr. 85, of Dixon, Ky. was born on Jan. 18th, 1939, in Brilliant and passed away on July 25th, 2024, in Newburgh, Ind. James was passionate about a few things, and if you spent any time with him at all, you would most certainly hear about them: his faith, his family and Alabama football. James preached his last sermon at Poole Church of Christ on June 30th, 2024, just days before he was called to his heavenly home. He leaves behind a family and church community who loved him dearly and strive to follow in his footsteps as they pursue Jesus.

Melvin Phillips

 Melvin Millard Phillips, 87, of Hamilton, formerly of Guin in the Pea Ridge community, passed away at his residence on Friday, July 19, 2024. He was born Aug. 15, 1936, in Marion County, Ala. He was the son of the late George Willis and Dora Elizabeth Franks Phillips.
He was a member of the Free Water Freewill Baptist Church and often played piano or organ during services. After working various jobs in Illinois and Alabama, he worked at the former Continental Conveyor for 35 years, which he retired from in Aug. 1998.

 Mrs. Peggy Carole Norris Weeks, 81, of Winfield passed away on July 19, 2024, in the Fayette Medical Center. Mrs. Weeks was born in Brilliant on November 2, 1942, to Cleo and Irene Caudle Norris. Peggy was a member of the Winfield Church of Christ. She was a 1961 graduate of Winfield High School and later attended Ailene Christian College. Peggy was employed as a bookkeeper for T.E. Lott Company in Columbus, Miss. until her retirement. In her spare time, Peggy enjoyed doing yard work and spending time with family.

Mack Franks

McDavid "Mack" Ray Franks passed away on July 20, 2024, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born on October 4, 1937, in Brilliant to David Franks and Robert and Verna Mae Galloway. Mack went to Fayette High School and served in the United States Navy. He lived in Hamilton for 53 years, was employed by the telephone company for 35 years and was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge.  Mack was a member of the Hamilton Church of Christ and enjoyed leading the hymns. In his spare time, he liked to work in his yard, take his puppy for walks, and spend time with his family.

Becky Hubbert

Mrs. Rebecca Kay Hubbert, also known as “Becky”, 62, of Winfield passed away on July 25, 2024, in the Diversicare Nursing Facility. Becky was born in Winfield on September 24, 1961, to Wyman and Addie Lou Nix Tarwater. She was a member of Shepherd’s Field Church and attended Marion County High School. Becky was a devoted mother and spent much of her life as a stay-at-home mom caring for her three sons. She enjoyed painting, decorating, shopping, and spending time with family and friends in her spare time.

Greg Shaw

Mr. Gregory Dean Shaw, better known as Greg, 60, of Hubbertville passed away on July 21, 2024, in the UAB Medical Center. Greg was born on May 11, 1964, to James Shaw and Connie Kimbrell Montgomery. He attended Hubbertville High School and served in the Army National Guard for 13 years. He was a truck driver, moving mobile homes and hauling logs. Greg was a loving family man and provider to his family. He loved his family and spending time with them and teaching them the value of hard work and enjoying the little things in life like fishing.

Mrs. Betty Jean Vickery, 90, of Winfield passed away on July 18, 2024. Mrs. Vickery was born in Marion County on June 22, 1934, to Bryan and Ollie Beasley Marcum. Betty was a member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ. She spent much of her life as a homemaker caring for her husband and children. In her spare time Betty enjoyed working outside in her flower beds, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family.
