HAMILTON — Tower One was added to the lineup of fire apparatus at the Hamilton Fire Department on June 17, 2024. The 2006 E-ONE Elevated Platform Snorkel Truck was purchased from the Muscle Shoals Fire Department for $400,000. The fire department contributed $100,000 of three-mill fire protection tax funds, with the city using COVID relief funds, and other resources, for the remainder of the cost. With a massive ladder extendable up to 95 feet, a pumping capacity of 1,750 gallons per minute, a water way capable of spraying 100 feet-plus and 300 gallons of water immediately available, the new ladder truck brings the department’s fire suppression and rescue abilities into a new stratosphere. “I’ve been hanging around the firehouse since 1989, and this is the most impressive piece of equipment that I have ever seen here,” said assistant fire chief Matt McCracken. “Tower One may not be new, but what an upgrade from the 1974 model. This truck should serve the City of Hamilton and its citizens very well for years to come. We anticipate it will be the backdrop for many photo opportunities durings its time here in Hamilton. And I can’t wait to see it in the next parade.” The new ladder truck replaces the 1974 Oshkosh Snorkel truck currently for sale on GovDeals.com. Regarding the upgrade, McCracken noted, “Having a 1974 model truck as the city’s only aerial device became unfeasible. Our mechanics were having a difficult time finding parts to repair it. “This ladder truck will be a much more reliable apparatus, and we feel like it will save the city money in the long run as maintenance issues are anticipated to be much less. “It’s a huge asset to our city, and we’re certainly grateful to the mayor and the city council for making it possible.” The city council approved the purchase of Tower One during its May 6 meeting and were able to view the new truck after their July 1 meeting.
