Aggies punch ticket to postseason

HAMILTON - On a cool Friday night, two teams squared up on the gridiron. Looking to sneak their way into the playoffs, the Hamilton Aggies hosted the Fayette County Tigers. A rather dry first half turned into a wet second half, but it was not enough to deter the Aggies from taking control of the game. Two rushing touchdowns were more than enough to propel Hamilton into the playoffs with a 14-2 win against the Tigers.
Fayette County received the ball to start the game, and their opening possession was going well until an early disaster struck. On third-and-eight, the Tigers threw the ball in hopes of a first down. Instead of the offense coming down with the ball, it was Hamilton’s Robert Johnson who made an interception for the Aggies. However, the Aggies couldn’t capitalize on the error, and they punted the ball back to Fayette County.
Like the Aggies, the Tigers punted their possession away to the Aggie 34. The Aggie drive was in jeopardy early, and the Aggies calculated a passing play on third-and-nine. The Tigers sent a heavy pass rush, but it didn’t faze the Aggies. Quarterback John David McCracken twisted around the defenders and passed the ball to Bryant Loving for a 23-yard gain. Two plays later, Johnson ripped upfield for a 17-yard rush. The Aggies were marching down the field, and Kenly Cochran made a sliding catch to set the offense up four yards away from the end zone to wrap up the first quarter.
The first play of the second quarter was a rush from Johnson. He tore through the defensive line and broke the goal line for an Aggie touchdown. Following the PAT, the Aggies took a 7-0 lead with 11:53 left until halftime.
