WINFIELD — The Winfield Lady Pirates varsity softball team defeated the visiting Carbon Hill Bulldogs 19-5 on Thursday night, March 9.
The Bulldogs scored three of their runs in the second inning but weren’t able to keep scoring enough runs to catch up to the Pirates, who widened their lead significantly in the following innings.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Lady Pirates scored six runs while the bases were loaded thanks to a few good hits, a few walks and a couple of batters getting beaned.
Carbon Hill’s Ella Hyde pitched the whole game for the Bulldogs, allowing 15 hits and 19 runs in four innings with one strikeout. Winfield’s Kennah Beth Lacy allowed five runs off of 11 hits over five innings, with three strikeouts.
Karrah Parr, Anna Lynn, Lexi May, Kaylee Parr, Madie Grace Lewis and Gracie McCarty each scored runs in the fourth inning.
May batted in four runs on two hits during the game. Parr led in hitting with three hits over four at bats. Parr, Lewis, May, McCarty, Willa Simmons and Hanna Kimbrell each made multiple hits during the game.
