Despite dealing with the challenges of COVID 19, the arts are thriving at Hamilton Middle School and Hamilton High School! Both schools are grantee schools that received Arts Education Initiative Grants from the Alabama State Department of Education.
The schools are in their second grantee cycle and have been awarded the grant again for the 2021-2022 school year. Both schools are currently offering Music, Visual Arts, Dance, Essentials of Acting, and Musical Theater.
In order to meet the obligations of the grant as well the trials caused by the pandemic, the schools have had to get very creative when producing this year’s offerings. They partnered with Blue Moon Drive-In Gu-Win to show their winter show, High School Musical which is an adaption of the Scribd version by Peter Barsocchini.
The show was scheduled for the week that snow and ice hit the area so it had to be rescheduled. High School Musical will be debuted on Friday, March 19 and Saturday, March 20 at 7:00 p.m. Admission is $5 per person, ages 3 and up.
Those interested in purchasing a DVD of the show may contact either school office. The schools were able to produce this show using video which allowed them to maintain COVID safety protocols while filming.
The schools have been able to maintain their programs this year by following the Alabama Department of Public Health guidelines for schools as well as through the use of technology such as Zoom, Remind, virtual auditions, and video and film technology. The teachers, students, and administrators have worked extremely hard this year to make sure that the program moves forward.
They are currently working on a production of the Broadway classic, Annie Get Your Gun. Plans are in the works to allow for a live outdoor event later in the spring semester. More details will be announced as they become available.
In the meantime, please come out and support the Aggie Arts Program by coming out to view High School Musical at the Blue Moon Drive-In on either March 19 or March 20 at 7:00 p.m.
This program depends on the support of the public so the schools would like to thank you in advance for your support of Hamilton Schools Fine Arts Program!
