HAMILTON — Hamilton-born James Minor was no stranger to hard work.
As the son of a sharecropper, he grew up in Alabama very poor but learned from his father the value of hard work. The family worked extremely hard year-round, which was necessary for survival. Minor was always very mechanically inclined. He could work on any motor, troubleshoot any issues and quickly fix them, keeping necessary equipment always running.

HAMILTON - City leaders in Marion County’s largest municipality have commissioned a study to determine if it can establish its own city school system.
The Hamilton City Council voted unanimously during a meeting on Monday, June 7, to contract Dr. John Myrick of the Alabaster School City School District to conduct a feasibility study of Hamilton schools withdrawing from the Marion County School System.

Hamilton wants your help to take the city back from the litter bugs.
The city’s newly established anti-littering committee is already set to make some waves with its first sponsored clean-up event, which will mobilize volunteers on Saturday, June 19.
“This will be the first of what we hope will be many official cleanup efforts that will focus on specific areas of Hamilton to pick up the litter,” said Hamilton City Councilman Scott Tyra, who heads up the anti-litter board.

The Arts are Alive at HMS and HHS!

Despite dealing with the challenges of COVID 19, the arts are thriving at Hamilton Middle School and Hamilton High School! Both schools are grantee schools that received Arts Education Initiative Grants from the Alabama State Department of Education.
The schools are in their second grantee cycle and have been awarded the grant again for the 2021-2022 school year. Both schools are currently offering Music, Visual Arts, Dance, Essentials of Acting, and Musical Theater.

Tombigbee receives five-year tax pass

HAMILTON - FreedomFiber will get a local boost in its journey to expand high-speed broadband internet service to northwest Alabama.
During a meeting on Monday, Dec. 7, the Hamilton City Council voted unanimously to provide Tombigbee Communications with a five-year abatement on its local three-cent sales-and-use tax in order to assist the company in its large-scale broadband intuitive.
