Grant awarded to repair history-rich structure

Grant funds through the Alabama Historical Commission (AHC) are on their way to assist a local historical project.
State Rep. Tracy Estes said he has received news from the AHC that two of three grants he has assisted within his district have been approved for funding.
This includes a $15,000 grant to the City of Winfield to replace the roof on the former Christian Center of Concern building and another $15,000 grant to reroof an old school in Double Springs.

Okinawa, Japan - Today, we pay tribute to Master Sgt. La’Tanja Steele for her tremendous leadership and her absolute commitment to the Airmen and Families of the United States Air Force (USAF)--a commitment that she has delivered on for over 22 years, where she served solely in airfield management.  
Steele is the Deputy Airfield Manager for the 18th Operations Support Squadron Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan.

 

Smith named elite tourism professional

By LOUIS MELLINI Staff Writer WINFIELD - Winfield native Hilda Smith has been named a North Alabama Elite Tourism Professional, a program of the Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association (AMLA). In Marion County, Smith, of Hampton Inn by Hilton Winfield, has been named a North Alabama Elite Tourism Professional for her contributions to the tourism industry. She was presented with a Walmart gift card.
