Sutton wins big at BBQ competition

HAMILTON - Samuel Sutton, 16, won 1st place at the National 4-H Poultry and Egg Conference Turkey Barbecue Competition in Louisville, Ky., on Friday, Nov 15.
Sutton, an 11th grade student at Hamilton High School, heard about the competition through his local 4-H Club, where he has been a member for five years, and competed in a competition at the Marion County level and finished in 1st place at the state level before competing in the turkey barbecue competition at the national level in November.

Orders now being taken for fruit trees, ornamentals

HAMILTON - Now is the perfect time to plan your spring planting!
The annual Marion County 4-H Plant Sale event  offers the perfect opportunity to order plants and shrubs that are  grown exclusively for the North Alabama climate.
“The nursery fills the plants and trees specifically for our  orders,” explained Marion County Cooperative Extension Office  Coordinator Lisa Murphy.

 

4-H enrolls 1,430 in ‘17-’18

HAMILTON - Marion County 4-H reached 1,430 youth in its 2017-2018 program year.
Marion County Extension Coordinator Lisa Murphy shared the local 4-H annual report to the Marion County Commission at its meeting on Monday, July 16.
