Guin Water Park will be closed this summer while repairs are made. Guin’s Mayor Phil Segraves assures it is only a temporary closure.
GUIN — The Guin Water Park will not be opening this summer to give the city time to make much-needed repairs and upgrades to the facility.
The water park has been a key fixture for the city of Guin as well as the surrounding area for decades, serving as host to countless birthday parties and church functions over the years.

Currently, this is known as the Blue Moon Drive-In Theater located in Gu-Win between Winfield and Guin. This picture was snapped in 1980, and filed with the Library of Congress in the John Margolies Roadside America photograph archive (1972 - 2008).
The original name of the business at the time this photo was taken was Gu-Win Drive-In Theater. It was opened in the 1950s by George G. Thornton, who passed away on June 5, 1963. It was shut down in the mid-1980s, reopening later as Blue Moon.
Thornton was the first mayor of Gu-Win, when it was incorporated in 1958.

GUIN — New water filters were installed at the Guin water treatment plant on Monday, June 6. The new granulated articular carbon filters are designed to filter out harmful chemicals, such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl.
Four new filters were installed at the plant, located on Highway 43 just beside the 3M plant.

GUIN — The Guin Water Works and Sewer Board has removed Mayor Phil Segraves as superintendent of the water board, after the mayor’s position was hired as superintendent in 1957. The board also had to address the fact that the pay for the superintendent position has been part of the mayor’s salary ever since.
During a water and sewer board meeting on Sept. 28, 2021, then-board member Trent Junkin made a motion to remove mayor Phil Segraves from the board as a representative for the city council.
GUIN - Two attempted arsons took place at churches near Guin last week, according to information released by Guin Police Chief Doug Webb.
Webb confirmed on Thursday, April 25, that attempted arsons had taken place at the two churches, but investigators have not determined exactly when they took place.
The Real Chapel CME Church south of Guin suffered what Webb called “minimal” fire damage. “There are scorch marks on the door. Nothing burned down,” Webb said.
