BRILLIANT - The Brilliant Tigers dropped their second contest of the season on Friday night, Oct. 2, falling to the Tornadoes of Pickens County High School by a final score of 26-13.
The Tigers, who are now 4-2 on the season and 3-1 in Class 1A, Region 6 play, started the scoring for the game in the opening period when senior quarterback Kade Bryant connected with Braden Burelson for a 13-yard touchdown reception. Jacob Barnes was good on the PAT, putting the Tigers on top 7-0 with 6:23 left in the first quarter.
Pickens County answered back with a score of their own later in the frame when Kajaveion Byrd scooped up a Brilliant fumble and raced 20 yards to the end zone for a scoop-and-score touchdown. The Tornadoes were successful on the two-point try, pushing the visiting team ahead 8-7 with 39 seconds remaining in the first stanza.
The Tornadoes extended their lead late in the second quarter with a pass to Byrd that went for a score. The Tornadoes again went for the two-point conversion, but the Tigers held the line, bringing down the Pickens County ballcarrier before he could cross the goal line, leaving the score at 14-7 with 2:46 left in the first half.
