Linda Wates

Linda Wates, 75, of Guin, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025, in the Diversicare Nursing Home in Winfield.
Born May 6, 1950, in Hamilton, she is the daughter of the late Ralph James and Doris Rosa Sullins Powless and the wife of the late Lynn Wates. She had lived in Guin most of her life and loved working in her garden. She received an associate's degree in accounting from Northwest Alabama Community College. She was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Guin where she also taught children's Sunday school.
She is survived by a daughter, Gina Wates; a son, Greg Wates (Victoria); five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a brother, James Ralph Powless.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lynn Wates; and a daughter, Joy Amanda Wates.
Funeral services were held on Oct. 17, 2025, at the Veal Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Guin City Cemetery. Bro. Mark Maddox officiated.
