Billy Joe Sims

Mr. Billy Joe Sims, 88, of Birmingham, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025, at his home surrounded by his children. Mr. Sims was born in Fayette County, Ala., on April 28, 1936, to Virgil Sims and Ila Mae Dodd. Billy Joe was a lifelong member of Deerfoot Parkway Church of Christ in Trussville, Ala. He was a 1954 graduate of Hubbertville High School where he played football. Billy Joe later attended Shelton State Community College where he earned his degree as a barber in 1962. He was a well-known barber in his community and loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved to travel and had many adventures throughout his life with his love for vehicles and motorcycles.
Mr. Sims is survived by his son, Danny Joe Sims; daughters, Sherry Denise Malone (Jeff) and Mava Jill Morse (Bobby); granddaughters, Nicole Anchors (Ryan), Brooke Malone, Katie Malone and Brittani Blackwood; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
In addition to his parents, Billy Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Mava June Mills Sims; his brother, Jimmy Dewayne Sims; and his grandson, Brandon Blackwood.
Funeral services for Mr. Sims were held on Jan. 24, 2025, at the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Whites Chapel Church of Christ Cemetery.
