The next municipal election will be postponed to 2025, per an act by the Alabama Legislature, extending the current terms of city and town officials to a fifth year.
The change affects each municipal election in Marion County, including those for Bear Creek, Brilliant, Guin, Gu-Win, Hackleburg, Hamilton, Twin and Winfield.
The next round of municipal elections would have taken place in 2024; however, Senate Bill 119, which successfully passed through the Legislature earlier this month and signed by Gov. Kay Ivey, pushes the next scheduled municipal election for towns and cities back to 2025.
Pushing the elections back a year sets the four-term cycles of municipal offices to an odd-year rotation, falling during the summer after a presidential election.
