If you are a farmer in Marion County, the Marion County Extension Office wants your information for a special section in the Journal-Record called “Thank a Farmer” due out around Labor Day.
Marion County Extension Northwest RC&D are supporting Alabama Agriculture Commissioner Rick Pate in his “Thank a Farmer” campaign. By doing so, they are asking farmers to send in a picture, either profile or action shots, and a biography for publication in the special section.
In addition to the special section in the Journal-Record, Marion County Extension will also be highlighting farmers on their Facebook page throughout the summer months. Onsite farm interviews will take place July through September, leading up to a special luncheon, scheduled for October.
Pate’s new campaign aims to increase public appreciation for farmers and raise awareness about where our food comes from.
“Through the ‘Thank a Farmer’ initiative, we’re encouraging Alabamians to show more gratitude for the food they enjoy and the people who grow it,” Pate said. “During COVID, it became apparent that food security is national security. Farmers are frontline workers providing the food we so often take for granted. We are proud to celebrate them, and we want to ensure that every consumer understands the critical role they play in feeding families across Alabama and beyond. I’m so proud of the work we’ve done through Sweet Grown Alabama, and this new initiative will only serve to further raise awareness of the vital role that farmers play in each of our lives.”
We encourage all farmers to send in their profiles. The deadline for submission is Wednesday, July 9. For more information, contact Marion County Extension at 205-921-3551.
