Tigers win homecoming game 45-6 Friday night

BRILLIANT — The Brilliant High School Tigers won their homecoming game 45-6 against the visiting Sumiton Christian Eagles on Friday night, Sept. 22. The game opened with the Tigers receiving the kickoff and returned it to about their own 45-yard line. After an incomplete pass on first down, Quarterback Brooks McLemore kept the ball and made it to the opposing 45 for the first down. The Tigers kept up the pressure and made it to the Eagles’ 30-yard line. Two runs from Zay Blackburn put the Tigers in good position to score at the 2-yard line, and Blackburn got the touchdown on the next play.

RV crash causes highway blockage near Brilliant

BRILLIANT — A single vehicle crash caused an RV to spread across both lanes of Highway 47 in Brilliant on Saturday, Aug. 26.
According to Marion County Emergency Management Agency Director Eric Terrell, the RV was traveling from Memphis before the accident took place.
“The RV was traveling from Memphis to somewhere down on the coast. They had a blow out and ran off the interstate,” said Terrell.
Terrell stated the vehicle came to rest across the entirety of Highway 47 in Brilliant.

County makes huge drug arrest

BRILLIANT — The Marion County Sheriff’s Department has made two big arrests this last week in their quest to make Marion County safer by getting drugs off of the streets.
Tommy Shane Sprinkle, 44, and Tanya Hamilton, 46, both of Brilliant, were arrested on Wednesday, March 22.

BRILLIANT — The Brilliant High School’s varsity girls basketball team has a 20-8 record and two milestone achievements this season. Senior Abby Humphries is the most recent of these, when she achieved 1,000 career points at the game against Vina on Tuesday, Jan. 31. The other one was by Macy Moore, another 1,000 points achiever, in December.

Man arrested at school event

BRILLIANT — A high school basketball game was momentarily halted on Tuesday, Jan. 24, when a belligerent spectator caused a scene and was subsequently taken into custody by Brilliant Chief of Police Eddie Bryant.
Stephen Smiley, of Brilliant, has been charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
