Hamilton Mayor Bob Page is shown at his desk at Hamilton City Hall, from which he led the city and all of its departments for nine years. During his two terms, the city made multiple equipment purchases and upgrades for city employees.
HAMILTON —The Journal-Record sat down before the fall elections to speak with Hamilton Mayor Bob Page and conduct an “exit-type” interview about his time in office.
“By and large, it’s been a real good ride,” he said. “My ninth year is coming to a close now. It should have been an eight-year term, but Governor (Kay) Ivey added another year to the last term to get us away from the general election.
“I had 52 1/2 years in banking, so with my years as mayor, I’ll have a little over 60 years in public life. It’s time for me to retire and try to see if there’s another side of life except working. I’ve always worked, and I know I’ll miss it, because being a servant is just what I’ve been about.”
Page said if he’d run again, and possibly won the election, he’d have been 83 years old when he left office the next time.
