Lady Pirates claim wins at Northridge

TUSCALOOSA — The Winfield City High School varsity softball team won two games at the Lady Jag Softball Classic, hosted by Northridge High School on Saturday, March 23.
Winfield played against Lamar County that morning, followed by Gordo that afternoon.
In the game against Lamar County, the Lady Pirates took an early lead, scoring four runs in the top of the second inning, followed by one run in the third, five in the fourth and three more in the fifth and final inning. The Lady Pirates only allowed two runs from the Lady Bulldogs, leading to a 13-2 victory for Winfield.
Jayci Griffin batted 3-4, scoring three runs. Karrah Parr scored one run and hit two RBIs.
Hannah Kimbrell scored two runs and brought in one RBI. Kennah Beth Lacy scored one run (a home run) and earned three RBIs.
Lexi May and Molly Kate Elkins brought in one RBI each. Windham scored one run and Madie Grace Lewis scored two runs with one RBI. Peyton Burroughs scored three runs.
Simmons pitched for five innings, allowing four hits, two runs and one walk. Simmons also threw two strikeouts.
Later that afternoon, the Lady Pirates didn’t score as many points against Gordo, but they prevented the Lady Waves from scoring any at all.
The Lady Pirates scored one run in the top of the first inning and two more in the top of the third inning to shut out Gordo 3-0.
