Deshler sweeps both games from Marion County

GUIN — The Deshler boys and girls basketball teams won both their games against Marion County on Thursday, Jan. 4. While the girls’ score was 79-27, the boys’ score was closer at 63-58, making a nail biter game.
Comparing the boys’ score to the previous game against Deshler on Dec. 4, it was nearly a reversal with Marion County winning 61-58. The girls’ game on Dec. 4, was 73-42 in favor of Deshler.
During the girls’ game on Jan. 4, Marion County won the tip off, but Deshler scored quickly and kept up a brutal pace through the game.
Deshler scored 20 points in the first period against Marion County’s 7, and the second quarter was Deshler’s most point getting quarter with 28, while Marion County scored 5. With shortened quarters through the rest of the game, Deshler had 19 points in the third and 12 points in the fourth. Marion County’s were 9 and 6, respectively.
Lily Robinson scored the most points in the game at 12, followed by Jasmine Wilson with 7, Bekah Junkin and Jolie-Kate Cox with 3 each and Addyson Randolph with 2.
The Marion County boys scored 31 points in the first half, with Deshler only adding 24, but the third period was Deshler’s rebound totaling up 23 points alone, against the Red Raiders’ 12. With Marion County scoring 15 and Deshler 16 in the last period, Deshler won the game 63-58.
Joe Aldridge was the top point getter in the game with 22 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Tye Madison followed with 15 points, 8 rebounds, 1 block and 2 assists. Next were Dalyce Floyd with 8 points and 6 rebounds, Vondrell Swanigan with 6 points and 5 steals, Philip Wilson with 5 points and 5 assists and Samuel Taylor with 2 points and 3 rebounds.
