HAMILTON — The City of Hamilton held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Hamilton Track and Field Facility, set to open 200 days after the June 19, construction start date.
In attendance during the event were many officials from all over Marion County, including Marion County Board of Education members, Marion County Superintendent Ann West, the Hamilton City Council and State Representative Tracy Estes.
Heath Avery of Avery Landscape and Associates was also in attendance during the groundbreaking.
At the beginning of the month, the Hamilton City Council awarded the construction bid to Avery Landscape & Associates to tackle Phase One of the project.
“The project was just over $6 million. We’ve got an additional $553,000 for the turf that the city’s going to pay out of packet (outside) of the contract,” said Mayor Bob Page when Avery was awarded the bid.
Phase One of the project includes the construction of the soccer fields, track and field area, stadium, entrances, parking lot, dumpsters and a gated entrance.
Before the official groundbreaking, Page thanked the Marion County Board of Education, who will financially support the construction of the track.
As he has since the start of the track project, Page emphasized that the track will be used by all Marion County schools and not just for the City of Hamilton.
Members of Hamilton’s track and field team were also in attendance during the groundbreaking as likely the most excited group of those in attendance.
