“It’s a struggle,” said Marion County Superintendent of Education Ann West, describing the experience many teachers, parents and, more importantly, students have had attempting to do school online.
The sentiment is similar in Winfield, according to Winfield City Schools Superintendent of Education Chris Cook.
During a Marion County Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 15, West told county education leaders that the state-provided virtual education programs, Schoology and Schools PLP, have been a thorn in the side for the Marion County Virtual Academy, which has enrolled an overwhelming 670 students this year.
“Everybody is in the same boat that we are in, and it’s not a good boat,” West said, explaining that recent reporting by a local television news outlet has highlighted problems at Tuscaloosa County Schools.
