Robert Morris Beasley
Robert Morris Beasley was born and raised in Winfield and died on March 30, 2019, at his home in Hixson, Tenn.
Mr. Beasley retired from Norfolk Southern Railway after 30 years. He was a member of the Clear Creek Church of Christ and was a longtime fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide.
He was preceded in death by his parents - Troy and Tennie Beasley: three brothers - Athel Beasley, Ellis Beasley and Frank Beasley; and four sisters - Clarine Burnett, Shirley Stevens, Betty Fisher and Faye Emerson.
Mr. Beasley’s survivors include his wife - Juanita Beasley; two daughters - Dr. April Beasley (Doug) Irving and Stephanie Beasley; brother - Murray (Judy) Beasley; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Beasley were held on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at Hamilton Funeral Home with Steve Campbell officiating. He was interred at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.

Grady Mack Bowen
Mr. Grady Mack Bowen, 82, Wayside, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2019, in the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Miss.
Mr. Bowen was a 1955 graduate of Winfield City High School and retired from 3M in Guin.
Mr. Bowen is survived by his two daughters - Nina Bowen Thompson (Bill), Winfield, and Debra Bowen Lang (Alan), Wayside; grandchildren - Bonneil May (Chad), Alana Reeves (John) and Anthony McCaleb (Lisa); great-grandchildren - Gracelynn McCaleb, Macon May, Rhett Reeves, Peyton McCaleb and Ada May; step-great-grandchildren - Ewan and Ethan Henson; sister - Lila Rollan (Keith); and a brother - Brant Bowen (Fran).
He was preceded in death by his parents - Sam Bowen and Junia Perry Bowen; his wife - Jeanette Nicholson Bowen; a sister - Ila Bowen; and a great-grandson - Marcus McCaleb.
Funeral services for Mr. Bowen were held on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at 3 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the West Alabama Memorial Gardens in Gu-Win. Rev. Earl Freeman was the officiating minister.

Georgia Etta Willcutt Gardener
Georgia Etta Willcutt Gardener, 65, Haleyville, slipped out of her family’s arms straight into the arms of Jesus on Monday, April 8, 2019, at Princeton Medical Center in Birmingham.
She was born on April 26, 1953, in Marion County to the late F.B. and Ruby Reed Willcutt. She grew up in the Rock City area and was a 1971 graduate Winfield City High School.
Mrs. Gardener was a member of Ireland Freewill Baptist Church for 40 years, where she was a Sunday School teacher. She played the base guitar in church and sang in the family quartet for over 30 years. She worked at Paul Green’s Café, Mac’s Cleaners and did ironing in her home.
Mrs. Gardener loved her dog “Molly,” which was her baby, and at home her favorite pastime was playing and tending to her. She enjoyed gardening, drawing, sketching, singing, writing songs, reading, crossword puzzles, spending time with family, working in flower beds and took pride in developing music and recording CDs at Fame Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals.
She helped raise anyone she could and anyone who came into her house would be offered an ice-cold can of Dr. Pepper. Back in the days, she was hard to beat at Super Nintendo games.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gardener were held on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at 3:30 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville, with Brother Ricky Whitt officiating. Burial followed in Griggs Place Cemetery in Rock City.
Mrs. Gardener is survived by her daughter - Michelle Vickery; her dog - Molly; sisters - Cathy (Roger) Hickman and Denise (Ray) Young. She was “Grandmaw Etta” to three grandchildren - Tiffany (Justin) McCluskey, Dustin (Mollie) Morgan and Katlyn Vickery; and two great-grandchildren - Ashton McCluskey and Braden McCluskey.
She was preceded in death by her husband - Larry Gardner; son - Rocky Ladon Frye; parents - F.B. and Ruby Willcutt; and sisters - Vicky Stults Porter and Jean Black.

Annell Wallace Hall
Ms. Annell Wallace Hall, 77, Moundville and formerly of Guin, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at her daughter’s residence in Moundville.
Ms. Hall was born in Guin on Feb. 12, 1942, to Elmer and Annie Mae Hall and retired from the 3M Company in Guin after many years of service.
She is survived by her two daughters - Stephanie Lynn Atkins (Shane), Moundville, and Shelia Denise Bankhead (Don), Tuscaloosa; two granddaughters - India Tate (Dean) and Stesha Bankhead, both of Tuscaloosa; a sister - Nettie Lee Cooper (Charles), Detroit, Mich.; and special friend - Rudolph McCollum.
Ms. Hall was preceded in death by her parents - Elmer Hall and Annie Mae Crump Hall; three sisters - Mary Jean Burke, Wilma Jean Bradford and Evelena Hollis; and three brothers - Leon Hall, John Davis “Pete” Hall and Craig Ramsey.
Funeral services for Ms. Hall were held on Thursday, April 18, 2019, at 1 p.m. from the Piney Grove Church of Christ near Bazemore with burial following in the Beaver Creek Cemetery in Guin. Bro. Dewayne Tapscott was the officiating minister.

Tommy and Merline Nix
Tommy Nix, 70, and his wife, Merline Nix, 69, Guin, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2019, in Union County, Miss.
Mr. Nix was born on Feb. 10, 1949, in Winfield and was the son of the late Fritz Hue and Mary Etma McDonald Nix. Mrs. Nix was born on Nov. 4, 1949, in Elaine, Ark., and is the daughter of Mary Catherine Rogers Roberts Cochran and the late Arnold Henry Eugene Roberts.
Mr. and Mrs. Nix had lived in the Guin area most of their life. They were members of the Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Nix was a truck mechanic and pilot.
They are survived by two sons - T.J. (Sissy) Nix, Guin, and Terry (Dusty) Nix, Golden, Miss.; four grandchildren - Coty (Brandy) Nix, Niki (Judd) Hubbert, Drew Nix and Blake Nix; two great-grandchildren - Reily Nix and Lily Hubbert; Mr. Nix’s sister - Judith Capps, Tuscaloosa; and Mrs. Nix's mother - Cathy Roberts Cochran, Guin, and sister - Janie (Roger) Ray, Gu-Win.
Memorial services were held on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at 4 p.m. from the Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church. A private burial will be held later.

Agnes Lavell Powell
Agnes Lavell Powell, 84, Hackleburg, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Miss.
Mrs. Powell was born on Nov. 4, 1934, in Hackleburg, to the late Lonnie and Gertrude Sullins Raburn. She had been a postmaster for the United States Postal Service.
She is survived by her children - Sheila (Mac) Johnston, Mike (Joan) Powell, Glenda (Steve) Loveless and Angie Taylor; son-in-law - Randy Lovell; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and brother - Denver Raburn.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by husband - Frank Powell; daughter - Ivy Renae Lovell; and brothers - Dennis and Donald Raburn.
Funeral services for Mrs. Powell were held on Sunday April 14, 2019, at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Sullins Cemetery.

Joe Mac Smith
Joe Mac Smith, 78, Guin, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2019, at his residence.
Born on March 13, 1941, in Guin, Mr. Smith was the son of the late Bennett Franklin and Ora Mae Weaver Smith. He graduated from Marion County High School in Guin in 1961 and had lived in Guin and Haleyville most of his life. Mr. Smith served in the National Guard for nine years. He was a member of the New Hope Church Of Christ. Mr. Smith owned and operated Harden Manufacturing in Haleyville.
Mr. Smith is survived by two sons - Craig (Deidre) Smith, Rosemary Beach, Fla., and Ken (Jennifer) Smith, Guin; three grandchildren - Dylan (Savannah) Smith, Brennan Smith and Savannah Diane Smith; two sisters - Carolyn Faye Smith Reese, Fulton, Miss., and Linda Diane Smith Plyler, Guin; two brothers - Wayne Franklin Smith, Cookeville, Tenn., and Randall Bennett Smith, Guin; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a grandson - Tanner Colby Smith; and a sister - Doris Gay Smith Wilson.
Funeral services for Mr. Smith were held on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at 2 p.m. from the New Hope Church Of Christ with burial in the West Alabama Memorial Gardens with Bobby Wright officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham or the Big Oak Ranch.
