Political leaders speak out about loan forgiveness

MARION COUNTY — President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and the U.S. Department of Education have announced a three-part plan that aims to help working and middle-class federal student loan borrowers transition back to regular payment as pandemic-related support expires. This plan includes loan forgiveness of up to $20,000.
The Journal Record reached out to local political leaders to ask their input on the new plans by the Biden-Harris Administration.

New state Republican Party chairman introduced to local GOP

HAMILTON - Recently appointed Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party John Wahl made his first visit to Marion County during the Marion County Republican Party meeting on Saturday, May 8, at J & V’s Ole Smokehouse in Hamilton.
This was the party’s first meeting with a full attendance since the COVID-19 pandemic began back in March of last year. In attendance were also Marion County  Republican Party Chairman David Hall, as well as State Rep. Tracy Estes and Senator Larry Stutts.

Bryne: ‘I don’t see another fighter in this race’

HAMILTON - U.S. Rep. Bradley Byrne addressed the Marion County Republican Party during a regular meeting on Saturday, Dec. 7, at J&V Ole Smokehouse in Hamilton.
Byrne, who is currently serving his fourth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, was born in Mobile and has served as a member of the Alabama State Board of Education and former chancellor of the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education.
He is currently running as a Republican for the U.S. Senate in the 2020 election, a position which is currently held by Doug Jones.

Tuberville speaking Saturday

HAMILTON - Former Auburn University head football coach Tommy Tuberville will be in Hamilton on Saturday, Oct. 12, as a candidate for Alabama U.S. senator.
Tuberville will be speaking at the Marion County Republican Party’s monthly meeting at J&V Ole Smokehouse on the corner of Highway 17 and Steele Street.
Attendees will begin gathering around 8:30 a.m. for breakfast, which will be available for purchase. The meeting will begin at 9.
