WINFIELD - Bus driver Jim Harrison received the Bus Driver of the Year award for the 2020-2021 school year during the Winfield City Schools Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, May 10, at Winfield Middle School.
“This is a special part of my job that I really enjoy. We’ve all had experiences this year--dealing with COVID-19--and dealing with a tough year in a lot of different ways,” said Winfield City Schools Superintendent of Education Chris Cook.
Online learning virtually impossible
“It’s a struggle,” said Marion County Superintendent of Education Ann West, describing the experience many teachers, parents and, more importantly, students have had attempting to do school online.
The sentiment is similar in Winfield, according to Winfield City Schools Superintendent of Education Chris Cook.

WINFIELD - Long-serving Winfield Board of Education (BOE) member Brenda Taylor sat in on her final Winfield BOE meeting on Tuesday, May 12, at the Winfield Middle School library.
Members of the board such as Winfield Schools Superintendent of Education Chris Cook took the time to thank Taylor for her service on the board.
Board hires Gann as new math teacher
WINFIELD - The Winfield City Board of Education has hired a new math teacher after the resignation of Carrie Jackson, who submitted her resignation after her arrest on Thursday, Jan. 16.
The board has chosen student teacher Lauren Gann, 21, to replace Jackson in the position for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year at Winfield City High School during a special-called meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Winfield Middle School.
Board against proposed uniform calendar bill
WINFIELD - The Winfield City Board of Education unanimously voted to approve a resolution stating that the board stands against the use of a proposed uniform calendar bill during its regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Winfield Middle School.
The proposed bill would see a uniformed start and end date for each school within the state of Alabama.
Cook says track top priority in capital plan
WINFIELD - A number of system projects are being specifically highlighted during Winfield City Schools’ 2019-2020 school year.
The Winfield City Board of Education approved the system’s 2019-2020 school year capital plan during its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 13.
Winfield Superintendent of Education Chris Cook presented the plan, saying that resurfacing the track was the system’s number-one priority.

WINFIELD - Winfield City Schools Superintendent of Education Chris Cook reported that the Alabama Scantron Performance Assessment tests have begun at Winfield Middle School.
“We’ve had very positive results so far. I’m very encouraged with the results that we’re seeing,” Cook said during the Winfield City Board of Education meeting on Thursday, April 11.
