Martha Kerr Self

Martha Kerr Self, 81, of Sulligent, Ala., passed away on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, at her residence. Martha was born on Nov. 21, 1944, in Hamilton, to the late Fred Ballard and Alene Edgeworth Ballard.
Martha was a 1962 graduate of Hamilton High School. She attended Hamilton Trade School and became a cosmetologist. She worked as a hairdresser in various salons through the years. Martha was a member of the Detroit Church of Christ. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Martha is survived by her sons, Keith (Cindy) Kerr and Ken (Teresa) Kerr, both of Sulligent; daughter, Sandy Kerr of Athens, Ga.; grandchildren, Nathan Kerr, Katie (Brody) McClain, Zack Kerr and Lauren Kerr; and great-grandchild, Silas McClain.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Douglas Lewis Kerr and Edsel Self; sister, Helen Dalton; and brother, Doug Ballard.
Private family graveside services followed by burial was held at the Liberty Grove Cemetery in Itawamba County, Miss. Pastor Steven Sanderson officiated.
