Black bear struck and killed on I-22

WINFIELD — A black bear was struck and killed by a motor vehicle on I-22 near Exit 30 in Winfield on Thursday morning, May 21.
The male bear weighed in at around 200 pounds. Photos of the bear were shared widely across social media on Thursday due to the rare nature of bear sightings in the area.
According to Alabama Forestry Commission Forestry Specialist Supervisor Joel Bartlett, bear sightings are exciting, but not unheard of in the State of Alabama and Marion County.

MARION COUNTY — Cities and towns in Marion County swore in new mayors and council members, and appointed new or returning officials, in organizational meetings on Monday, Nov. 3, to begin the new municipal terms for those positions.
Some municipalities saw little to no change with some council members and mayors running unopposed for election or re-election.

Old Citizens Bank building roof in Winfield collapses

Repairs are underway for the older Citizens Bank building in Winfield, where the roof partially collapsed.

WINFIELD — The Winfield City Council discussed repairs currently underway during its regular meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 21, after the roof of the old Citizens Bank building collapsed.
Mayor Randy Price said he had met with one insurance adjuster earlier that day with more coming later that week to assess the damage and begin the repair process from there.
