GUIN — Congressman Robert Aderholt’s office announced that Guin is set to receive a $250,000 Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) grant for the Sewer Package Plant Rehabilitation Project.
According to a statement released by Aderholt’s office, “The project will rehabilitate an existing sewer package plant to maintain wastewater service, ensure regulatory compliance and support future development.”
The new upgrades include installing a temporary processing plant to allow work to be done on the plant in the meantime, as well as updates for aging components, cleaning, painting and new equipment like pumps, blowers, piping, diffusers, control boxes and more.
The ARC funds are specifically going toward the liquid and air piping to local businesses to improve reliability, according to the press release.
The City of Guin will also contribute nearly $250,000 of their own funds to match for a total cost of just under $500,000 for the whole project.
The small package plant, located near I-22, currently serves the Holiday Inn and the Chevron gas station on State Highway 44 off of the exit from the interstate, along with any future businesses that may locate to that area.
