Aggies claim two state championships

BIRMINGHAM — Hamilton, Marion County and Winfield high schools competed in the 2024 state indoor track meet on Friday, Feb. 3, and several athletes made the podium.

The Hamilton Aggies finished in third place in the boys’ and girls’ 4A-5A meets, both claiming the top 4A spot.
The girls earned 35 points, finishing behind Arab (63 points) and Scottsboro (72 points).
The boys earned 53 points, ending up behind John Carroll Catholic High School (61 points) and Scottsboro (80 points).
Meg Wiginton finished the 60m hurdles in fourth place  and set a new school record (9.79 seconds). She also placed 11th in long jump.
Taylor Biggerstaff finished pole vault in 12th place.
Kyra Casey set a new school record in triple jump, finishing in second place with a mark of 34 feet, 9 inches. She also placed 13th in long jump.
Aubrey Sorrells placed seventh in triple jump.
The girls’ 4x800 team, consisting of Maya Jones, Jane Wiginton, Anne Wiginton and Madalyn Hulsey, placed fifth and set a new school record (10:32.74).
The girls’ 4x400 team (Meg Wiginton, Gracie Sanderson, Kyra Casey and Bristol Evans) set another school record (4:16.15) and finished in second.
The girls’ 4x200 team (Meg Wiginton, Kyra Casey, Bristol Evans and Gracie Sanderson) placed second again and also set a school record again (1:49.84).
For the boys, Christian Shipp placed sixth in high jump and set a new school record (5 feet, 8 inches).
Kevin McBride placed 10th in shot put.
Elijah Robinson placed third in pole vault (12 feet, 6 inches).
Dylan Segraves placed 12th in long jump and fifth in the 60m dash.
Josh Webb finished the 800m in 14th place.
The boys’ 4x800 team (Josh Webb, Layne Taylor, Anderson Streetman and CeeJay Sizemore) finished in fifth place.
The boys’ 4x200 team (Dylan Segraves, Layne Taylor, Hayden Ables and Cameron Martin) finished in 10th place.
The boys’ 4x400 team (Layne Taylor, Hayden Ables, Josh Webb and Elijah Dollar) set a school record in second place (3:35.43).
Jake Webb won the gold as the pole vault state champion, clearing 13 feet, 3 inches.
Elijah Dollar placed third in triple jump (school record of 41 feet, 1 inch) and third in long jump (school record of 20 feet, 2 inches).
In all, Dollar set four school records and was also the state champion in the 4A-5A boys’ 60m hurdles with a time of 8.53 seconds.
Dollar and Wiginton also competed in the state pentathlon competition. Dollar placed fifth, and Wiginton placed seventh.
