HACKLEBURG - New signs have been erected at the North Fork Bridge honoring those who have lost their lives at the location throughout its history.
The bridge will now be named the North Fork Creek Memorial Bridge and can be seen on both sides of the bridge.
State Rep. Tracy Estes, R-Winfield, spoke to the Journal Record on Wednesday, July 28, stating that the signs are the final steps to end a long saga to rebuild and rename the bridge area.
Estes stated that the original bridge located in the North Fork Creek area was dangerous and several lives were lost throughout the years.
He stated that there were plans to rebuild the bridge back as far as the administration under former Hackleburg Mayor Doug Gunnin.
