County recognized for Safety Month practices by ACCA

HAMILTON — Marion County was recognized by CRS (County Risk Services, Inc.), a third party insurance administrator for the Association of County Commissions of Alabama, for its “efforts to improve safety and reduce accidents in the workplace.”
According to a press release from CRS, “During National Safety Month, county officials and employees conducted strategic risk management programs each week to enhance safety for both county employees and the public.
“These programs focused on housekeeping, road projects and property inspections, as well as heavy equipment use and maintenance,” the statement continued. “This year, Marion County went the extra mile, garnering further recognition for additional efforts to increase safety with firearms and firearm equipment.”
EMA Director Russ Taylor is also Marion County’s safety coordinator. He explained what his responsibilities are in that role, and commended county employees for their dedication to implementing proper safety practices.
“As the designated safety coordinator for the county, part of my duties and responsibilities include adhering to the guidelines and regulations set forth by a number of state and federal agencies as they apply to the multiple county departments working everyday to provide services for Marion County citizens,” Taylor said. “Additionally, we have certain processes and systems in place to maintain and hopefully enhance the safety of our employees and protect the equipment and assets we use to conduct county business.
“We strive to provide for our employees the means to be as productive and efficient as is safely possible. Being recognized by CRS and the ACCA is an honor that should be directed at the folks working tirelessly, day in and day out, to provide the caliber of service that our citizens have come to expect from us.
“Our people take their jobs seriously, and I commend them for working as hard as they can to maximize production without compromising safety or quality.”
“In the hectic pace of life today, the contributions and commitment of officials and employees in county government are overlooked far too often,” said Sonny Brasfield, executive director of the ACCA in the press release. “When we do that, we miss a thousand things — large and small — that they do each and every day to provide vital public services. I am proud to salute Marion County for its continued investment in safety.”
In addition to the recognition, the county will also be receiving a complimentary breakfast funded by CRS.
