BRILLIANT — Brilliant Town Councilor Sondra Kinsey is helping to head up a farmers market in Brilliant. She recently provided more information on plans for the market during an interview.
“I’m on the city council and involved with charities and other organizations,” she said. “And I just felt the need—since we don’t have a grocery story—to get some fresh produce and products in here where our community can get to it,” she said.
Kinsey said the farmers market will be set up in downtown Brilliant near the CoalFest stage. The address is 115 Orange Street, Brilliant, AL 35548.
“We wanted to have the farmers market located in the town, so everyone within walking distance would be able to utilize it and have access to the fresh products.
“We’re so thankful we can hold it near the CoalFest stage. That’s what that area is for—the community.”
She noted growers and vendors will bring their own tables and tents. There will be no cost to participate.
“We are not charging for this,” she said. “There is no fee. Our only requirements are they fill out an application with us, and they also have to have their growers permit or a cottage license. We are requesting submission of required items by June 1.”
Kinsey noted the Brilliant Farmers Market is a state-certified farmers market. Those interested in participating can obtain their growers permit by visiting the Marion County Extension Office, where they can also find information on obtaining their cottage license through an online course. For more information, the phone number for Extension is 205-921-3551.
