Joseph Morris

Mr. Joseph Edward Morris, 65, of Winfield, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, in the UAB Medical Center in Birmingham. Mr. Morris was born in Chester, Pa., on Dec. 7, 1959, to Nelson Morris and Anna Cecelia Jarek Thompson.
He was an active member of Abundant Life Church in Gu-win. Joe served with honor in the United States Marine Corps for four years, attaining the rank of lance corporal. He then continued his service in the Army for 13 years as a staff sergeant, where he was a combat medic and ammunition transporter during military operations, including Operation Urgent Fury during Grenada, Desert Storm and in Iraq. He was a proud member of both branches and earned numerous medals and commendations for his service and leadership. In his free time, Joe enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles and playing pool. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Mr. Morris is survived by his loving wife, Marcella Morris; his sons, Jason Morris (Meme), Justin Morris (Ashley) and Peter Pearlstein (Amanda); his granddaughter, Emily Morris; siblings, Margie Pierce (Joe), Christine Collins and Robert Thompson (Becky); sister-in-law, Kathy Morris; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson Morris and Anna Cecelia Thompson; his stepfather, Leon Thompson Sr.; and brothers, Leon Thompson Jr. and Billy Morris.
Funeral services for Mr. Morris were held on April 14, 2025, at the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel.
