Damer Williams

Damer J. Williams, 92, of Hamilton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 12, 2019.
Damer was born on Oct. 1, 1926, in Marion County, Ala., where he went to school and worked with his family until be became a member of the United States Armed Forces and served during World War II. He was a navy seaman 2nd in the U.S. Navy on USS Battleship when the war ended fifteen months in battle.
After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy, he returned to Alabama and married the love of his life, Eva Dell Rye, and they were happily married for 72 years.
Damer and Eva Dell moved to Michigan early in their lives where they made their home in Adrian for 45 years. He was an active member of the Church of the Nazarene and served in many capacities. He retired from General Motors in 1988 and after retirement, moved back to Alabama. Damer enjoyed being outdoors, working in his yard and spending time with his family.
His family and friends will always remember him as he loved God and lived his life accordingly.
Damer is survived by his wife, Eva Dell Williams, of Hamilton; sister, Mae Dean Harris, of Tremont, Miss.; brothers-in-law, Olen Rye (wife, Joanne) and Hershel Rye (wife, Gail); sister-in-law, Jimmie Lou Williams, of Adrian, Mich.; many loving family members, a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; two sisters; brother-in-law, Cecil Rye (wife, Virginia); and many other family members who he loved dearly.
Funeral services were held May 16, 2019, at Marion County Funeral Home in Hamilton. Burial followed in Cooper Cemetery.
