Volleyball seasons end at regionals

HUNTSVILLE — Volleyball season has officially come to an end for teams in Marion County after the regional tournament in Huntsville.
Brilliant, Hackleburg, Hamilton and Marion County advanced to the regional tournament, which began on Thursday, Oct. 26, at the Von Braun Center. Winfield and Phillips did not advance to regionals after area losses.
Brilliant
The Brilliant Tigers began their tournament journey in the Marion County tournament on Saturday, Oct. 14. The Lady Tigers lost their first game to the Marion County Lady Red Raiders, and a second loss put them out of the tournament for good.
Despite that, the Lady Tigers continued to play in the 1A Area 11 Tournament, hosted at Marion County High School on Thursday, Oct. 19.
The Lady Tigers defeated Lynn three sets to one, and advanced to the second round, where they faced the against the Lady Red Raiders, Ella Cantrell scored the most kills with six. Aubrey Sorrells scored five, Jordan Parker scored four and Gracie Childers and Zee Woodson scored one each.
Sorrells and Woodson made three blocks each, and Childers and Parker made two each.
Brilyn Gilstrap made 11 digs during that game, followed by Parker with nine and McKenna Taylor with eight.
The Lady Aggies shut out the Haleyville Lady Lions 3-0 to advance to the championship round, where they would ultimately lose to the Curry Lady Yellow Jackets 3-0.
The Lady Aggies advanced to the regional tournament as area runners-up and played against the Priceville Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Aggies’ season came to an end with a 3-1 defeat.

Marion County
The Marion County Lady Red Raiders finished the county tournament as runners-up.
They began the tournament with a victory over the Brilliant Lady Tigers, followed by another win over the Hackleburg Lady Panthers in the second round.
The Raiders fell to the Lady Aggies in the third round, but still had another shot after defeating Winfield in the loser’s bracket.
In the county tournament, Anna Rhea White scored 12 kills and made 14 assists, three digs, seven ace serves, three blocks and five tips.
Jasmine Wilson scored eight kills, one assist, three ace serves, five blocks and three tips.
Caroline Pyron scored seven kills, seven ace serves, four blocks and four tips.
Olivia Webb scored five kills, one block and five tips. Bekah Junkin scored four kills, nine assists, one dig, three aces and three tips.
Keleigh Stiles scored seven aces, Lilly Franks scored two kills, two digs and one tip; and Adileigh Webb made four digs.
Hamilton won the county championship, but the Lady Red Raiders kept going strong through the 1A Area 11 Tournament.
They defeated the Hubbertville Lady Lions in the first round and defeated the Brilliant Lady Tigers 3-1 in the championship round.
The Lady Red Raiders advanced the farthest of any county team by defeating the Holy Spirit Catholic Saints 3-0 in the first round of regionals.
The Lady Raiders were able to win one set in their second-round game against the Athens Bible Trojans, but the Trojans won three sets to bring the Raiders’ season to an end.
Phillips
Phillips lost early in the county tournament after losing to the Winfield Lady Pirates in the first round.
The She Bears would go on to play in the 1A Area 14 Tournament at Belgreen, where they would lose 3-1 in the first round to the Hackleburg Lady Panthers.
