BRILLIANT — The Brilliant Tigers hosted the Berry Wildcats on Friday, Oct. 27, and lost to the Wildcats 44-8.
The Wildcats scored first after they returned a punt for a touchdown with 5:21 remaining in the first quarter.
The Wildcats recovered the kickoff, but the Tigers’ defense held and forced the Wildcats to punt. The punt bounced and rolled all the way back to the Tigers’ own 1-yard line, and with 3:20 left in the first quarter, the Wildcats scored two more points on a safety to go ahead 8-0.
The Wildcats were able to score again shortly after the Tigers kicked off, going ahead 16-0 with 3:04 left in the first quarter.
Berry scored a touchdown early in the second quarter but missed the point after kick to take a 22-0 lead.
The Tigers returned the kickoff to their own 35-yard line. Quarterback Brooks McLemore, Jaeden Lipsey, Jerry Lothrop and Blackburn kept the Tigers advancing steadily into Wildcat territory.
The Tigers made it up to the three-yard line for first and goal but were held back three times by the Wildcats’ defense.
Finally, on third down, they would get their chance.
With 6:18 left in the half, McLemore threw a pass to Carson Lawrence in the end zone for the Tigers’ sole touchdown of the game.
