Phillips’ homecoming ruined by visiting Tigers

BEAR CREEK — The Brilliant Tigers came to Bear Creek Sept. 29, and ruined Phillips High School’s homecoming, defeating the Bears 40-6.
The Tigers struck quickly, going for it on fourth down, with Kason Pool crossing the goal line from four yards out for the touchdown. The 2 point conversion was good, and the score was 8-0. The Tigers scored once more in the first, on a long pass complete to Brooks Armstrong, who dove in at the pylon for the touchdown. The two-point conversion was good, and the score was 16-0.
Defense kicked in within the second quarter, and it took the Tigers until nearly the end of the first half, when Brilliant Quarterback Brooks McLemore kept it for a touchdown from the Bears’ 10 yard line.  The 2 point try was good, and the score was 24-0. McLemore picked a pass to end the half, sending the teams to the locker room with the score 24-0.
The Bears started the second half on offense, but got picked again, this time by Taylen Odom.  McLemore found Armstrong open in the end zone on the next play for the touchdown. The 2 point conversion was good, and the score was 32-0.
Armstrong got the Tigers’ third pick on the night later in the third quarter, running it back for a touchdown. The 2 point try was good, and the score was 40-0, Brilliant to end the third quarter.
The Bears finally got on the board as the fourth quarter began.  Hayden Jordan got the home team into the red zone, and Ethan Bailey brought them into the end zone. The 2 point try failed, and the final was 40-6.
Brilliant will be hosting Hubbertville this week, while Phillips will be on the road at Vina.
