COUNTY OF MARION
NOTICE is hereby given that a bill substantially as follows will be introduced in the 2023 Regular Session of the Legislature of Alabama and application for its passage and enactment will be made:
Synopsis: This bill would propose a local act relating to Marion County to set compensation for certain Marion County elected officials.
Relating to Marion County; regarding the compensation for the Sheriff of Marion County, the Marion County Revenue Commissioner and the Commissioners of Marion County.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
Section 1. This Act shall apply only to Marion County.
Section 2. Upon the effective date of this Act, the salary of the Marion County Sheriff shall be set at $80,000 per annum, in addition to all other benefits provided by law, paid in the same manner as other county employees or officials and shall be treated as compensation for retirement contributions. The increase in compensation shall be considered as an expense allowance and shall be payable from the Marion County General Fund commencing on the first day following the effective date of this Act.
Section 3. Upon the effective date of this Act, the salary of the Marion County Revenue Commissioner, including all fees associated with collection of the one-stop tag program, shall be set at $70,000 per annum, in addition to all other benefits provided by law, paid in the same manner as other county employees or officials and shall be treated as compensation for retirement contributions. The increase in compensation shall be considered as an expense allowance and shall be payable from the Marion County General Fund commencing on the first day following the effective date of this Act.
Section 4. Upon the effective date of this Act, the salary of the Commissioners of Marion County shall be set at $60,000 per annum, in addition to all other benefits provided by law, paid in the same manner as other county employees or officials and shall be treated as compensation for retirement contributions. The increase in compensation shall be considered as an expense allowance and shall be payable from the Marion County General Fund commencing on the first day following the effective date of this Act.
Section 5. Effective upon the next term of office, the salary for the Marion County Sheriff shall be set at $80,000 per annum, in addition to all other benefits provided by law, paid in the same manner as other county employees or officials and shall be treated as compensation for retirement contributions. At that time, Section 2 shall become void.
Section 6. Effective upon the next term of office, the salary for the Marion County Revenue Commissioner, including all fees associated with collection of the one-stop tag program, shall be set at $70,000 per annum, in addition to all other benefits provided by law, paid in the same manner as other county employees or officials and shall be treated as compensation for retirement contributions. At that time, Section 3 shall become void.
Section 7. Effective upon the next term of office, the salary for the Commissioners of Marion County shall be set at $60,000 per annum, in addition to all other benefits provided by law, paid in the same manner as other county employees or officials and shall be treated as compensation for retirement contributions. At that time, Section 4 shall become void.
Section 8. This Act shall become effective immediately following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
