Winfield nabs win over West Point

Winfield pitcher J.D. Ray pitched 5 scoreless innings to pick up the win versus the West Point Warriors.

WEST POINT — After returning from their annual spring trip to play in the Gulf Coast Classic Tournament in Gulf Shores, the Winfield Pirates once again took to the road to take on the West Point Warriors in Cullman on Friday, March 24.
Winfield got out to an early lead by scoring 2 runs in the first on back-to-back singles by Hayden Ballard and Jarrett Hosch followed by a sacrifice fly by Tyler Mays.
West Point responded with 4 runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Winfield shuts out Carbon Hill Bulldogs 10-0

Davis Bowen had all the right stuff on Tuesday, March 29, for the Winfield Pirates, allowing zero runs and besting Carbon Hill by a score of 10-0.
Winfield scored four runs in the sixth inning. The offensive onslaught by the Pirates was led by Bowen and Walt Hennicke, who all drove in runs.
One bright spot for Carbon Hill was a single by Jesse Walker in the third inning.
Bowen pitched Winfield to victory. The righthander lasted six innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out five and walking zero.

Pirates fall in game three to second-ranked Bulldogs

PIEDMONT - The Winfield Pirates forced a game three, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the second-ranked Piedmont Bulldogs, as they fell 2-1 in a best-of-three playoff matchup in the quarterfinal round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Class 3A State Baseball Playoffs.
The hosting Bulldogs claimed game one 5-4, sealing the contest a walk-off hit.
Piedmont was the first to score in the contest, grabbing a two-run lead in the bottom half of the third frame.
