Airport Day planned Oct. 3 in Hamilton for 70th year

HAMILTON — The Marion County-Rankin Fite Airport is bringing back Airport Day for its 70th birthday on Saturday, Oct. 3.
“Marion County-Rankin Fite Airport opened for business on Oct. 1, 1956,” said Marion County Engineer Wesley Hallman. “So in October, the airport turns 70 years old. Years ago, they had Airport Day. They had car shows here, and other people have rented the venue for different things.
“So we decided to bring Airport Day back, especially for the airport’s 70th birthday this year. Earlier in the summer, we realized that most of the town and most of the county did not realize we had a county airport or even an airport at all in Hamilton.
