Winfield to host 250th Downhome Jubilee

WINFIELD — The City of Winfield Park and Recreation Department, along with the Winfield City Chamber of Commerce, will be hosting the 250th Downhome Jubilee, celebrating 250 years of The United States of America on Saturday, June 27, at Ivan K. Hill Park.
The jubilee starts at 2 p.m. with a sensory hour with reduced noise starting at 1 p.m. for those with sensory sensitivities.
There will be a historical presentation about the history of how the oak tree came to be America’s national tree.
There will also be a ceremony to honor veterans, who will assist in planting a commemorative tree and memorial marker.
There will be a moment of silence followed by veterans ringing a “Liberty Bell.”
The Kids’ zone opens at 3 p.m. with slides, train rides, bubble machines, moon jump, water slides, wipeout zone, a foam cannon, face-painting and much more, along with a touch-a-truck time with fire trucks and other large machinery and more.
There will also be food and craft vendors set up throughout the day, and hotdogs and apple pie will be served.
Games begin at 4 p.m., including potato sack races, tic-tac-toe, checkers, three-legged races, corn hole, spike ball, tug-o-war and more.
Coloring contest awards will be announced at 5 p.m., then the hotdog and pie-eating contests will begin at 6 p.m.
There will be a family-friendly, patriotic movie shown at 8 that evening, followed by fireworks at 9:30 to end the day with a bang.
