Karen Richardson Black, 53, of Mansfield, Texas, formerly of Brilliant, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with illness. Karen was born on March 11, 1973, to Jerry Richardson and Tommie Markham.
A 1991 graduate of Brilliant High School, she went on to earn her degree from Weber State University in 2004, where she graduated as a radiology practitioner assistant. Her career allowed her to travel and meet people from all walks of life, and no matter where her work took her, she had a way of making friends and leaving a lasting impression. She was an avid Alabama football fan and loved to travel. Karen was known for her strength, determination and her ability to find joy even in difficult times. She was someone her family deeply admired-strong, caring and full of life.
Karen is survived by her husband, Jeff Black; stepdaughter, Sarah Black; her beloved goldendoodle, Bella; sisters, Sarita Hosch (Rex), Cindy Atanacio (Leo) and Wanda Mitchell (Craig); sister-in-law, Joy Moore (Mark); and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly – Mike Connell (Holly), Jessica Rainey (Justin), Michelle Connell, Kim Mills (Chris), Mandy Rainey (Grant), Tiffany Williams and Blake Mitchell (Kristen); 15 great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great-nephew.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Patricia Richardson and Tommie and Slim Markham; brother, Eddie Hill; and her father-in-law, Jimmy Black.
Funeral services for Karen were held on Nov. 13, 2025, at the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
