Etna Faye Wates, 95, of Guin, passed away Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, in the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Guin.
Born Sept. 29, 1929, in Marion County, Ala., she is the daughter of the late Will and Bessie Green Franks and the wife of the late Qudell Wates. She had lived in the Pea Ridge community most of her life and was a faithful member of the Green Springs Missionary Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Fleeta Spruiell (Don) of Sulligent; two grandsons, Phillip (Sabrina) Wates of Guin and Richard (Marsha) Wates of Huntsville; four great-grandchildren, Garrett (Katherine) Wates of Birmingham, Kailee Wates of Woodstock, Ga., Mary Beth (Ryan) Jones of Huntsville and Peyton (Hannah) Wates of Huntsville; and three great-great-grandchildren, Holland Wates, Harper Wates and Birdie Wates.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Qudell Wates; a son, Michael Wates; sisters, Sara Grey Martin, Ava Pollard Frye and Jewel Morrow and brothers, Hugh Akers and Woody Akers.
Funeral services were held Nov. 7, 2024, at the Veal Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Center Cemetery. Bro. Dwight Wilson and Bro. Roger Akers officiated.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Green Springs Missionary Baptist Cemetery Fund.
