James Palmer

James Leo Palmer Jr. 85, of Dixon, Ky. was born on Jan. 18th, 1939, in Brilliant and passed away on July 25th, 2024, in Newburgh, Ind. James was passionate about a few things, and if you spent any time with him at all, you would most certainly hear about them: his faith, his family and Alabama football. James preached his last sermon at Poole Church of Christ on June 30th, 2024, just days before he was called to his heavenly home. He leaves behind a family and church community who loved him dearly and strive to follow in his footsteps as they pursue Jesus.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel Sue Cook Palmer. The two of them were married for 66 years and built a beautiful family, while serving and spreading God’s Kingdom. James was a gospel preacher for 60 years and shared God’s word in 37 states across the country. James is also survived by his five children, James “Chip” Palmer of Providence, Ky., Timothy Paul Palmer (Barbara) of Wartrace, Tenn., John David Palmer (Lori) of Bassett, Va., Mary Elizabeth Asbell (Michael) of Nashville and Martha Melea Hobgood (Greg) of Dixon; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and a niece and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Leo and Catherine Palmer; his brother, Mitchell Ray Palmer (along with his wife, Betty and daughter, Michelle); and his daughter-in-law, Nancy Palmer.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Aug. 1st, 2024, at Townsend Funeral Home in Dixon. Min. Chip Palmer and Min. Bob Palmer officiated. Graveside services were held on Aug. 2nd, 2024 at Goldmine Church of Christ Cemetery. 11674 AL-129 Brilliant, AL. 35548.
